SMU transfer commit Nana Owusu-Anane has reopened his recruitment. The 6’8 power suffered a partially torn labrum before the season that required surgery. He did not play in 2024-25, but stayed at Brown and was a team captain. He entered his name into the portal in December and sought a graduate year since the Ivy League doesn’t allow that.
Owusa-Anane averaged 10.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in three seasons with Brown. The power forward averaged 14.7 points and 8.8 rebounds in 2023-24 while shooting 46.8% from the field. He had initially committed to SMU in March but has now reopened his recruitment.

5 Possible Landing Spots for Nana Owusu-Anane.
Owusu-Anane initially considered Arizona State, Baylor, Grand Canyon, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, and San Diego State before committing to SMU. Let’s examine five programs he could join this time.

Kansas State
Kansas State has lost five players to the transfer portal this offseason, and high school recruit Ashton Magee withdrew his commitment. However, the Wildcats have been able to add three incoming players from other Division I programs and could make Owusu-Anane the fourth, especially as he had them on his initial list.
Grand Canyon
Head coach Bryce Drew took the Antelopes to the NCAA first round after finishing the season with a 26-8 record. Unfortunately, four of his starters have run out of college eligibility, and the only starter with eligibility left has transferred to Villanova. Grand Canyon does not have any incoming 2025 signings, so Drew has to recruit through the transfer portal. He could consider Owusu-Anane’s experience.
Baylor
Baylor lost a number of their active players from last year. Several players entered the transfer portal, with Robert Wright III committing to BYU and Langston Love transferring to Georgetown. After graduating, the rest departed from the program, while star freshman VJ Edgecombe declared for the NBA Draft.
Scott Drew has to rebuild his program from scratch, and Owusu-Anane could be an exciting option.
Arizona State
Arizona State is one of the programs that the transfer portal hit the most, as Adam Miller became their 10th player to hit the transfer portal. Head coach Bobby Hurley is rebuilding the program, and he’s been leaning towards experienced players in his recruiting. Owusu-Anane has enough experience to do a good job for Arizona State.

Kansas
The Kansas Jayhawks, with nine seniors on the roster, crashed out in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year. They have to rebuild the program if they want to start competing again, and Owusu-Anane could prove to be a shrewd pick-up.
