Milos Uzan’s Love for Kelvin Sampson’s Houston Run Surfaces in NBA Pre-Draft Workout Interview

Milos Uzan has always been the kind to forge his own path. Uzan is a 6-foot-4 point guard who was born into a basketball family. After two seasons at Oklahoma, Uzan had made sure his name was on everybody’s radar. And soon, he transferred to Houston ahead of the 2024–25 season.

In Houston, Uzan was trained under the ever-so-iconic head coach Kelvin Sampson. And no doubt, it showed in his game. Now, with his name briefly in the NBA Draft waters, the young guard is switching gears again. But it’s not a detour. It’s more of a full-circle moment because it seems like Uzan’s heart never really left Houston.

Milos Uzan Shows Where His Loyalty Lies After Workout Insights and NBA Draft Decision

At a recent post-NBA Draft workout press conference, Milos Uzan was questioned about his 2024-25 season, which he played for the Houston Cougars under Kelvin Sampson. And Uzan was all praises and doe eyes as he spoke about what the Sampson experience meant to him.

“I mean that whole journey last year, I think, was big time—especially all the goal setting we had,” Uzan said. “We had set a goal to win the Big 12, to win the Big 12 Tournament, to get to the national championship. I think all of those accomplishments—I’m proud of those.” And he has every reason to be.

Despite having missed a huge piece of the preseason due to a broken nose, Milos Uzan made a comeback to remember. He went from dropping eight points and five assists in a win over UCF to nearly making a triple-double with 17 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds in the match against #12 Kansas.

Uzan went on to earn the Big 12 Player of the Week for that Kansas performance. But that was the beginning. He went on to lead all scorers with 19 points against #13 Arizona. Then, Uzan went on to make a career-high 25 in the Big 12 Tournament final against Arizona. But instead of continuing the momentum to the NBA, Milos Uzan took a different route.

Milos Uzan will withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to Houston for the 2025–26 season. And that screams Kelvin Sampson loyalty! With guard Pop Isaacs heading to Texas A&M and Uzan officially staying, the Cougars have their leader back.

Milos Uzan will be joined by returning stars Emanuel Sharp and Joseph Tugler. No pressure, but the Sampson squad is already in the conversation as the preseason No.1. So yes, Uzan tried his hand with the NBA. But at the end of it all, his heart lies in Houston.

And if last year’s run was “big time,” just wait for what he’s cooking up next.
