Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines already have a five-star recruit from the Class of 2026 in Trey McKinney, but they are now also poised to possibly recruit another one. No. 9-ranked Anthony Thompson from Western Reserve Academy has announced that he will be visiting several schools, and the University of Michigan is one of them.
On3.com/Rivals insider Joe Tipton revealed that the five-star small forward is scheduled to visit Ann Arbor on September 5. Before that, however, he is set to visit North Carolina on August 22 and then Ohio State on August 29. He also has visits scheduled for Indiana on September 12, Texas on September 19 and Kentucky on September 24.
5⭐️ Anthony Thompson has scheduled the following official visits, per source:
North Carolina: August 22nd
Ohio State: August 29th
Michigan September 5th
Indiana: September 12th
Texas: September 19th
Kentucky: September 24th https://t.co/mpZMrVQOBg— Joe Tipton (@TiptonEdits) August 4, 2025
Thompson has cut down his list of possible destinations to seven, including the six above-mentioned schools as well as Purdue. He has not yet scheduled an official visit with the Boilermakers so far, but Michigan is certainly in a race for the small forward.
He has been described as a good shot-maker who can score from long and mid range in bunches, and his ability to sink a three has many schools scrambling. His slender build at small forward, paired with his ability to shoot from distance has had many analysts to compare him to Kevin Durant, event though the Slim Reaper is a lot taller than him.
So far, On3/Rivals has Ohio State as the favorite to recruit him with 22.8%, followed by Indiana with a 19.9% chance. This is followed by Kentucky with 13.7%, and then Michigan with 11.4%. These four schools are seen as the favorites to actually recruit him.
Five-Star Small Forward Anthony Thompson Previously Talked About Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines
While his official visit is still set for September, Anthony Thompson has actually unofficially visited Ann Arbor previously in 2024. The five-star small forward met with head coach Dusty may during that unofficial visit and was all praises for May and the program.
“He’s (Dusty May) a really good coach, a really smart coach. When I went to visit them, I really liked the coaching staff up there,” he told On3 in 2024.
He also previously noted that he wants to play for a coach that he has found a connection with, on and off the court. He added that he can also play with a coach who can allow him to play in different styles than his usual one.
