Malik Beasley’s Name in Federal Investigation Put His Contract with Pistons in Jeopardy

Malik Beasley was first reported to be under federal investigation in June in connection with alleged prop-bets and irregular gambling activity involving his performances during the 2023-24 season.

This comes after unusual betting trends were noted related to Beasley’s in-game stats. There was a spike to hit under when it comes to Beasley’s rebound totals around January 2024.

At the time, Beasley’s attorney Steve Haney confirmed that it was just investigation and that he was not facing any charges.

“There have been no charges against Malik,” Haney told the AP. “It’s just an investigation at this point. We hope people reserve judgement until he’s charged — or if he’s charged. It’s not uncommon for there to be a federal investigation.”

When the news of the investigation came to the fore, he was almost in the final stages of receiving a three-year, $42 million contract from the Detroit Pistons. However, the deal didn’t materialized in the wake of federal investigations and he remains without contract entering the 2025-26 NBA season.
