Louisville’s James Scott Enters Transfer Portal: 5 Possible Landing Spots

Just before the deadline, Louisville Cardinals center James Scott entered his name into the transfer portal. The sophomore is the second player to move on from the Cardinals following the end of their 2024-25 season after guard Koren Johnson, who has since committed to Ole Miss.

The 6-foot-11 James Scott was an important part of Louisville’s frontcourt in year one under head coach Pat Kelsey. He played in 35 games and started 31 of them. He averaged 7.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.9 blocks per game.

Five Possible Landing Spots for James Scott

    Baylor

There aren’t many centers in the transfer portal this cycle, and Baylor lost one of theirs. Josh Ojianwuna played in 87 games for Baylor over three seasons and is a career 70.7 percent field-goal shooter. Baylor needs to replace Ojianwuna’s input for the team, and Scott could be an option.

    Arizona State

Following the completion of the 24/25 season, eight Arizona State players left through the transfer portal, including five-star freshmen Joson Sanon, who has committed to St. John’s, and center Jayden Quaintance, who has committed to Kentucky. Head Coach Bobby Hurley has added seven transfers to his roster, but he’s yet to add a center to replace Quaintance.

    Florida Atlantic

For the second year in a row, Florida Atlantic University lost at least seven players to the transfer portal. This year’s exodus included Spanish big man Baba Miller, who averaged 11.3 ppg and 1.7 blocks per game, and center Matas Vokietaitis, who averaged 10.2 ppg and was named AAC Freshman of the Year. The exit of these two means there’s a place for Scott if he desires it.

    UCF

UCF lost freshman center Moustapha Thiam to the transfer portal after one season. Thiam, standing at 7-foot-2, averaged 10.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game last season. He started 34 games and helped the Knights to a 20-17 record and the finals of the inaugural College Basketball Crown. His loss will leave a gap on the roster.

    Auburn

Auburn made its second-ever Final Four appearance this year, but the program was forced into a rebuild ahead of the 25/26 season. Eight of the Tigers’ scholarship players ran out of eligibility following the season’s conclusion, and three more entered the transfer portal. Head coach Bruce Pearl has added a number of players already, but he could still use a center, and Scott’s skill set could be useful.
