Bryce James, LeBron James’ son, is an incoming freshman with the Arizona Wildcats. The 18-year-old has grown up around the NBA as his father became a superstar before he was born. As James embarks on a new journey, his father has given him some invaluable advice.
While talking to the media after practice, James was asked to share what his father had told him about navigating his time in college.
“For me, some advice he’s given me is probably just working hard, just coming in here and doing what you do best,” James said. “Also, just making sure that even if you’re not having some good days, always have a stay-positive mentality.” (From 5:00)
For any 18-year-old with the dream of becoming a professional basketball player one day, King James is the best person to go to for any advice. For Bryce, the biggest resource in basketball happens to be his father. So, he gets the blueprint to success that most people don’t.
“Maybe you miss a shot, you have a turnover or something, don’t hang your head down. Always keep your head up, just push through and stay positive,” James said.
As one of the greatest basketball players of all time, King James has been through it all. He has seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Bryce, who will now have significantly more attention on him as a college athlete, can always seek help from his father about navigating the media scrutiny.
Now, one might say that since LeBron James never went to college, he might not be completely aware of the struggles of a college athlete. LeBron was drafted straight out of high school by the Cleveland Cavaliers. In that scenario, Bryce has his brother, Bronny James, also an NBA player, who shares his college experience with him.
Bryce James On What Advice Bronny James Gave Him
Bronny James is the eldest child of LeBron. He played for the Trojans from 2023 to 2024, so his advice for the incoming Arizona freshman would be even more helpful. When asked to share his brother’s advice with the media, Bryce said:
“Some advice he probably gives me every day is just staying consistent, being locked in, and not being focused on anything else besides just coming here, putting in the work, and going hard every day. That’s probably what he’ll give to me.” (From 3:45)
After spending one year with the USC Trojans, Bronny declared for the NBA Draft in 2024 and was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers as their second round, 55th overall pick. With that, Bronny and his father became teammates.
At the time, and even today, the Lakers’ drafting Bronny is a controversial topic. But the criticism usually comes from people who can’t justify their anger and deliberately overlook the fact that Bronny wasn’t a top draft pick. More importantly, he is talented enough to be a part of an NBA team’s roster and be allowed some time to grow.
