LA Lakers superstar LeBron James recently went candid about his long-time relationship with his wife, Savannah, and how things are never ‘perfect’ in any relationship. On Thursday, Sept. 18, James was interviewed by Complex host Speedy Morman on topics such as his career, off-court life, and what’s next for the four-time NBA champion as he enters his 40s.
This was reposted on X/Twitter by @itsavibe, highlighting the part where James and Morman discussed the former’s wife, Savannah. They tied the knot in 2013. Morman asked LeBron James how they maintained such a perfect relationship for decades. However, James asserted that it is not ‘perfect’ and comes with its own bumps.
“ It’s not man, Speedy, I’m gonna be honest. A relationship is never, it is never picture perfect. But if you are able to work through, if you are okay with working through the hardships and the adverse moments, then it will. It will make it all worth it, man. Like we’ve been together since high school, so sh*t ain’t gonna always be a bed of roses, man. In any relationship, you know, let alone someone that you’re living with for over 20 years,” James said (0:14).
“So, you know, I think communication is number one. Being honest is number two. Number three is just like you have to be okay with being uncomfortable in relationships sometimes,” he added.

Much to the delight of Savannah James, fans, and supporters, LeBron James will enter his 23rd season in the NBA in the upcoming 2025-26 campaign. Last year, he helped coach JJ Reddick’s Lakers to a 50-32 record, decent for the third seed in the Western Conference. Unfortunately for James and the Lakers, they were defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in their 2025 first-round series, 4-1.

LeBron James Says A Relationship Has To Be A Collaborative Effort
In the same interview with Speedy Morman, LeBron James offered some relationship advice, one that he said has helped him throughout his time with Savannah.
LeBron and Savannah James have been together since high school, when the former was a phenom at St. Vincent-St. Mary’s. LeBron James opined that a relationship can’t always work according to one’s liking.
“Man, you can’t always have it your way. You can’t always think that, you know, ‘my way or the highway.’ It’s never gonna work that way. You know, the saying, ‘Happy wife, happy life.’ That sh*t real, bro. But also like, you know, sh*t, happy husband, happy loving. But like, for real, it’s not gonna be a bed of roses,” he explained (0:50).
