They say greatness runs in a family’s blood. It’s very easy to prove this to be true when you look at the Anthony family. Now, Kiyan Anthony is following in his father, Carmelo Anthony’s footsteps by making a run for MVP for his high school team.
Over two decades ago, a young Carmelo made waves for the Syracuse Orange on the route to the 2003 NCAA Championship, including being named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Now, his son is lighting up the scoreboard, and Carmello and Kyan’s mother, La La, are cheering him on. What did his mother say about his performance?

La La Anthony Shares 3-Word Message to Kiyan Anthony after His MVP Moment
Carmelo’s son, Kiyan, has committed to Syracuse in hopes of repeating what his father was able to do just over a decade prior. He’s already making waves on the court, and his mother, the entire college basketball world, and the professional basketball world are taking notice.
His mother, La La, posted a video on Snapchat of her son, Kiyan, playing basketball on the high school court. She captioned the video, “Kiyan for MVP!!!!!” showing that she’s rooting him on and attending all of his games.
The 6’5″ guard showed off his fantastic scoring ability by picking up 25 points. He connected on nine of his 15 shots and picked up five rebounds and three assists. He led Long Island Lutheran High School to an easy 71-68 victory over the nation’s No. 9 ranked team and won the “The Throne” title.
His fantastic performance in this game not only sealed Lutheran’s championship but also earned him the prestigious MVP crown. His mother proudly wore this crown in the celebration video she posted on Instagram for her thousands of followers to see.
Aside from his standout performance in this game, the 18-year-old has shown his amazing talent on multiple occasions during basketball games. For example, in 2023, during the Nike EYBL game, Lutheran witnessed Kiyan score 28 points in a game that first truly put him on the map.

However, he’s also earned recognition in other elite competitions like Peach Jam, SLAM, Summer Classic, and the Top 100 Camp over the course of the previous year. To say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in this case would be the understatement of the century.
For La La Anthony, this was so much more than just another game. This was a proud mother’s moment. She’s never shied away from being Kiyan’s biggest supporter, posting about him and his achievements all the time. As Kiyan prepares to take the next step, the only thing we know for sure is that the Anthony basketball legacy is far from over.
