Kon Knueppel Breaks Silence on Comparisons With Stephen Curry

Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel has given a straightforward statement that encapsulates his thoughts on already being compared to an active NBA legend. On Thursday, Jan. 1, @ballislife uploaded a carousel post on Instagram, featuring Knueppel. It focused on his sentiments about sharing the limelight with the likes of four-time NBA champion and Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry.

The reason why several fans are comparing Knueppel to Curry, despite it just being his first year in the league, is that Knueppel’s outstanding rookie campaign has been highlighted by his hot shooting from both the mid-range and the three-point area. However, Knueppel remains humble in his pursuit of a lengthy NBA tenure.

“Despite his INSANE rookie campaign thus far, Kon Knueppel isn’t ready for the Steph Curry comparisons 👀 What do you think Kon’s ceiling is in the league? 🤨,” @ballislife on Instagram captioned with a couple of emojis.

“Uhm, I don’t know about that,” Knueppel was quoted as saying.

Having said all of this, Knueppel is gradually building up the means to be compared to the likes of Curry, given that he is considered one of the frontrunners to win the 2025-26 NBA Rookie of the Year award. After all, he has averaged impressive numbers of 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per contest in around 33.1 minutes per game. Knueppel has started 30 of the 31 games he has played in so far.

The 20-year-old has helped coach Charles Lee’s Hornets squad to an overall record of 11-22 as of the moment, as he has continued to build chemistry with the likes of former All-Star LaMelo Ball. In Curry’s case, he is currently uncorking his 17th year in the league with coach Steve Kerr’s Warriors, aiming to win his fifth NBA championship this season.

Kon Knueppel Is The Fastest Player To Reach 100 Career Three-Pointers Made

Perhaps most of the comparisons to Stephen Curry also stem from the fact that Kon Knueppel recently became the fastest player ever to reach 100 career three-pointers.

On Sunday, Dec. 28, during a loss to coach Kenny Atkinson’s Cleveland Cavaliers, Knueppel reached the mark with the 29th game of his NBA career. In the process, he edged out the likes of both Curry and Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen.
