Who Is Kohl Rosario? Kansas Adds Moravian Prep Star After Early Reclass

Kohl Rosario made a major decision on Tuesday. The 6‑foot‑5 shooting guard from Miami, currently at Moravian Prep in North Carolina, announced he’s reclassifying from 2026 to 2025 and committing to the Kansas Jayhawks.

The move comes as a surprise, but one that the Jayhawks would like all the time. Here’s everything we need to know about Rosario and how he’s going to dazzle the college basketball court next season.

    Who Is Kohl Rosario?

Kohl Rosario was raised in Miami before he made the move to North Carolina and attended Moravian Prep. He was born to father Karel and mother Christy, both of whom made ends meet to see Rosario emerge as one of the top high school basketball players in the country.

Last season, Rosario played for the Overtime Elite’s YNG Dreamerz, averaging 15.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game. However, his numbers took a hit in the playoffs, averaging 13.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.1 apg and 1.6spg.

After competing in Overtime Elite, Rosario also featured in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League. In EYBL play, he averaged 14.2 points and 3.2 rebounds. He made 20-for-45 (44.4%) shots from beyond the arc. On May 24, in Abu Dhabi, he burned the court with 30 points on a perfect 10-for-10 night at the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague.

As far as his recruiting is concerned, Rosario had offers from KU, Duke, UNC, Oregon, Baylor, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, and more. After strong spring, his national ranking surged from 96th to ~45th in the 247Sports 2026 class.

KU HC Made His Feelings Known After Landing Kohl Rosario’s Commitment

After landing Kohl Rosario’s commitment, Jayhawks head coach Bill Self said:

“We’re very excited to add Kohl this year’s team. It’s not often there’s a player of his potential to become available at this point. We feel that what Kohl brings from a perimeter athletic shooting standpoint is something that we’ve needed to add to this year’s roster. He is one of the hardest working youngsters that we’ve ever recruited and feel the transition to college ball will be more seamless due to this.”

In Rosario, the Jayhawks get a skilled, athletic shooter who can stretch the floor and make plays both offensively and defensively. The guard will join Darryn Peterson and Je’lon Hornbeak at Kansas next season.
