“How Would Y’all Feel If I Referred to Your Wives in Such a Way?”: Klay Thompson Slams Patrick Beverley After Derogatory Words for GF Megan Thee Stallion

Klay Thompson found himself forced into the spotlight off the court this week after a former NBA player made derisive remarks about his girlfriend, Megan Thee Stallion. On the latest episode of their Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast, retired NBA journeyman Patrick Beverley and retired NBA champion Jason Williams dissected the reason behind Thompson’s poor performances.

It didn’t take long for the topic to drift from performance to personal life as they suggested that the relationship was dragging down Thompson’s game. The language used by the former players was distasteful and demeaning toward Megan.

Thompson publicly condemned the remarks, calling the comments disturbing and out of bounds for anyone, let alone former NBA players. He made it clear that dismissing a woman’s role by reducing her to a negative influence was unacceptable.

“Referring to my GF as a ‘p***y’ is so disgusting and disturbing. Especially from someone who played in the NBA . How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way ? Do better fellas . Very disappointing,” Thompson commented.

While the timing coincides with a dip in Thompson’s numbers and the spotlight on his adjustment in Dallas, his reaction sharpened the narrative. He refused to let the conversation be redirected to his struggles alone and made sure the focus included respect and accountability.

The initial comment was bound to spark criticism.

“I’m from West Virginia, man, I’ve been taught a lot from old folks, old white folks,” Williams said, “It only takes one p***y to drag a battleship across the desert. That’s how powerful it is.”

By standing up publicly, he shifted some attention away from himself and toward the tone of the discourse in basketball media and among ex-players.

Klay Thompson on His New Bench Role

Thompson’s transition this season to a bench role with the Dallas Mavericks offers a significant shift in his career. After many years as a consistent starter with the Golden State Warriors, he began the 2025-26 season in Dallas as a starter but struggled with his shooting and rhythm.

The team’s coaching staff made the decision to move him to the bench in order to change the flow of the lineup and get more efficient minutes out of him. Interestingly, Thompson is enjoying the process and is committed to doing his best for his team in every role.

“I’m enjoying it, I get to see the game develop so I can see where to pick my spots,” Thompson SAID. “At the end of the day, I played 30 minutes in the NBA, year 15, in just trying to be out there as much as I possibly can.”

“I’m not saying the end is near but like it’s such a privilege to be out there, no matter if it’s mid-November or early June. My goal this year is to be the most consistent presence in the lineup.”

For Dallas, the move signals that the organization believes his veteran presence remains valuable but wants him in a position where he can maximise efficiency rather than carry the bulk of the offensive load.
