Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson is having a nightmare of a season, and some have pointed to his new relationship as the reason. On Tuesday, Nov. 4, @TheDunkCentral on X/Twitter uploaded a clip of Thompson visibly frustrated as he was headed to his team’s locker room. The four-time NBA champion also slammed a water bottle on his way.
Thompson has not had the ideal start to his second campaign with coach Jason Kidd’s Mavericks. In the seven games so far this season, Thompson has been looking like a shell of his former All-Star self, as he has churned out subpar averages of 8.1 points on a lackluster 32.8% overall shooting clip, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in around 19.7 minutes per contest.

A few basketball fans online have blamed Thompson’s recently revealed girlfriend, American rapper Megan Thee Stallion, for his shooting woes.
“Lmao and Meg the highlight of his life right now, sad,” one user pointed out.
“Meg got him too distracted off the court 😭,” another user claimed.
“Well, he probably spent the entire offseason with Megan Thee Stallion instead of getting shots up,” another shared.
“I already told y’all he was going to have a terrible season. He rather be in the spot light with Meg Thee Stallion, than be in the gym 🤷🏽♂️,” a user said.
Other X users offered their takes on what could be going wrong for Thompson.
“It’s ’cause Mavs don’t have a point guard to set him up correctly. Klay shoots best off catch and shoot, not having to dribble and create his own shot. Get him back with Luka or another high level creator and Klay will be back shooting a high % again,” one fan explained.
“Klay’s problem is the same as before, his ego. He couldn’t accept that he’s no longer the same player he was before his injuries. He’s fighting his own pride, and as long as he keeps doing that, he’ll play frustrated and unhappy, which will stop him from ever being himself again,” another user wrote.
“What playing with no Steph gravity looks like,” a user posted.
Thompson is in his 13th season in the NBA after spending his first 11 years with coach Steve Kerr’s Golden State Warriors. With the Warriors, Thompson was best known to be one-half of the “Splash Brothers” alongside two-time regular-season MVP Stephen Curry. He was named to a multitude of All-Star appearances and All-NBA selections to go with his four championship rings.

The Dallas Mavericks Have Been Struggling To The Tune Of A 2-5 Record
It seems as though it isn’t just Klay Thompson who has been struggling for the Dallas Mavericks. The squad, as a whole, has a mediocre record of 2-5.
The team just lost to their conference and state rivals, the Houston Rockets, in their last game by eight points, 110-102. They will look to get back on the win column against the New Orleans Pelicans, who are also struggling with a 0-6 standing, at home on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
