Kiyan Anthony Reflects on Pressures of Following Father Carmelo Anthony’s Legacy at Syracuse

Syracuse Orange guard Kiyan Anthony has shared his thoughts on the pressure of being the son of a former star from his current program and NBA legend, Carmelo Anthony. On Sunday, Nov. 23, @fieldof68 on Instagram posted a clip of its most recent interview with Kiyan, hosted by college basketball analyst Rob Dauster, where he dived deep into the young standout’s first year of collegiate hoops thus far.

At one point in the interview, Dauster laid out how much of a legend Kiyan’s father, Carmelo, was when he was still in college before blossoming into a star in the NBA. He asked Kiyan how he deals with the pressure of trying to live up to his father’s standards while building his own legacy.

“ Yeah, you definitely feel it. You know, I feel it every day just coming to practice. I feel it in the games. I feel it before the games. But, you know, it’s kind of just something I embraced and got comfortable with; being comfortable, being uncomfortable. So, whenever I feel like, you know, it is a new scenario for me, new situation, I kind of just dive into, you know, what I did before, just trying to find places to be comfortable and keep my mind right, and kind of just stay hopeful,” Anthony explained.

“You know, the internet, the media, and all the other opinions ’cause you know, that doesn’t really drive positive. So you just got to, you know, keep a level head and, just keep working, keep your head down, keep going,” he continued.

Carmelo Anthony led the Syracuse program to its first and only national championship so far during his one-and-done season in 2003. He declared for that year’s NBA Draft, where he was selected with the third overall pick in the first round by the Denver Nuggets. In a 19-season tenure, Carmelo was named to the All-Star Team 10 times, the All-NBA Second Team twice, and was the 2013 NBA scoring champion.

Kiyan Anthony And The Syracuse Orange Are Undefeated In The 2025-26 Campaign

It seems that Kiyan Anthony and the rest of coach Adrian Autry’s Syracuse Orange have been enjoying a successful 2025-26 campaign with their current record.

This is because their overall record stands at an unblemished 4-0 so far, as they are atop the ACC rankings during their non-conference schedule.

The team is looking to go 5-0 when they face the Houston Cougars, last year’s NCAA finalists, on Monday, Nov. 24.
