What Happened to Kevin Durant? Know More About His Unavailability vs Suns And Warriors

Kevin Durant’s first season with the Houston Rockets has been strong, steady, and far more impactful than many expected for a 37-year-old star. The Rockets sit at an impressive 10-4, one of the best starts in the Western Conference, and Durant has played a major role in that early surge.

Through 14 games, he has averaged over 24 points per game with 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists, shooting over 48% from the field. His arrival has shifted the Rockets from a rebuilding team to a legitimate threat.

That is why his sudden unavailability for the next two games is such a big storyline. As per Shams Charania, Durant will not suit up for the upcoming matchups against the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors, two of his former teams and two of the tougher opponents on Houston’s schedule.

“Kevin Durant will miss two road reunion games — against the Suns and Warriors — due to a family matter,” Charania reported.

The reason for his absence is a family matter, not an injury, but the timing makes it highly unusual. Durant has not missed a game this season until now, and the Rockets had been counting on his veteran presence to guide them through this competitive stretch.

Houston will have to adjust quickly. Facing the Suns and Warriors back-to-back without their leading scorer forces the team to rely heavily on its younger players. Although they boast a strong roster, stepping into KD’s shoes isn’t an easy task for anyone.

His absence puts pressure on the coaching staff as well, as they must adjust rotations and rework spacing without the gravity Durant creates. Durant is expected to return by November 30, when the Rockets are scheduled to face the Jazz.

Kevin Durant on Stephen Curry’s Sneaker Free Agency

Durant has also weighed in on one of the biggest stories in basketball culture: Stephen Curry’s sneaker free agency. Curry’s long partnership with Under Armour, which began in 2013, recently came to an end.

With the deal ending, Curry has been spotted wearing different sneakers in games, including a pair of the late, great Kobe Bryant’s signature line as a nod to the Lakers legend. Curry’s decision to explore new footwear options marks a fresh chapter in his career, and the league has taken notice.

Durant, someone who has had his own long relationship with Nike, commented on Curry’s situation and his belief that Curry fit naturally with Nike all along, during his conversation with Kay Adams on the Up & Adams Show.

“No disrespect to Under Armour. [Curry] should have always been a Nike athlete,” KD said. “But he built his brand, and this is an exciting time for him to be able to choose and to have people out there who still want his services at 37. You can just tell his legacy and brand is still intact. He’s a free agent, and it feels like he’s still a rookie.”

For now, Curry is enjoying his sneaker free agency before he gets into another deal with a brand.
