For college basketball, the big talk of the town has been Darrion Williams and where he might end up now that he’s back in the transfer portal. Williams recently pulled his name from the 2025 NBA Draft pool. Now, the only question that remains is where Williams might end up.
According to well-respected college basketball analyst Jeff Goodman, the NC State Wolfpack and Kansas Jayhawks are among the leading teams to land the 22-year-old former Texas Tech Red Raider. Goodman recently provided key insight as to where Williams may be heading next.

Where Is Darrion Williams Going After Withdrawing From 2025 NBA Draft?
The versatile forward averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game last season, and is a career 37.9% three-point shooter. Now, he’s looking for his next home after delaying the NBA Draft for one more year to work out some kinks in his senior year of college. According to Jeff Goodman, the answer is rather obvious.
“Obviously NC State would love to get Darrion Williams,” Goodman says. “He’s a guy that would fit in with what they have, and what they’d like to have which is PJ Haggerty coming in from Memphis. That would give Will Wade a really, really good perimeter trio.”

“Kansas needs him desperately,” Goodman goes on to say. “They need another dude.”
So, while Goodman said that NC State would like to have a player like Williams join their squad, Kansas desperately is in need of a player like Williams and very well could do whatever it takes to land the 22-year-old versatile wing.
Williams was ranked as the No. 46 overall prospect on ESPN’s big board. This made him a very decent candidate to be drafted. However, he struggled during combine scrimmages last week. He scored just two points in 45 combined minutes over the two days of gameplay. One positive is he averaged 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
However, this could have set him back a great deal. With the 2025 NBA Draft about a month away, NBA teams are keeping a very close eye on the draft pool. Williams wants to play one more college year to really fine-tune his skills. At this point next year, it will truly be sink or swim for the 22-year-old.
Williams measured in at 6-foot-4.5 barefoot with a 6’6″ wingspan. This put him on the much smaller end for NBA wings. This gave Williams a very real possibility of being drafted in the second round, and potentially even going undrafted.

He made the early decision as the withdrawal date for early entrant prospects who want to retain NCAA eligibility is May 28. He’ll likely earn more on the NIL market this year, and he gets one more year to continue to build his draft stock for next summer, where he will likely take part in the 2026 NBA Draft.
