Auburn Tigers forward Johni Broome is vying for a spot in this year’s NBA Draft class. Broome remained one of the best college basketball players of the season and is certainly a first-round caliber player. However, fans and maybe even scouts alike were not very positive when they saw his NBA Combine vertical results.
The combine just started and runs from May 11 through May 18. Broome was one of the top forwards in college basketball, but depending on how his combine goes, it can make or break the spot he gets drafted in, and maybe even if he gets drafted. Spoiler alert: he’s not off to a great start.

Johni Broome’s Combine Vertical Raises Questions About Draft Future
In a recent video uploaded by @DraftExpress on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday, you can see Broome trying his best in a vertical leap drill. Unfortunately for Broome, his best may not have been good enough, as his vertical drill raised questions about his draft future.

He had prior attempts with the vertical leap, but in the uploaded clip, he was no longer able to reach the top stick. This has been a benchmark for college players to be able to jump high and reach the top stick, so it’s a pretty bad sign for Broome if he’s not able to do that.
College basketball fans and spectators were left unimpressed with Broome’s vertical leap drill attempt and chimed in under the video.
“Did all that warming up just to barely get off the ground. Sad,” one user shared with a laughing emoji.
“This is so nasty, to post only this attempt after he swiped the other sticks,” another user said with a crying emoji. “Bro, not jumping over a credit card,” another joked. “Bro got the hops of a 5-year-old,” a user wrote with a laughing emoji.
Other users on X chimed on to provide their takes on the future of Johni Broome’s basketball career, when it comes to the drill.
“Buddy needs to get Duolingo ASAP, that jump had Euroleague written all over it,” one user posted. “They’re gonna use this clip to discredit this era in 20 years, this dude just set us back,” another user replied with a laughing emoji. “Home Depot is hiring lil bro,” a user jokingly asserted.
Despite all the naysayers of the vertical leap drill, Broome is still predicted to be the No. 37 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Broome himself is staying positive on his draft stock. He is predicted to be picked up by the surging and very talented, and young Detroit Pistons.

Should Broome head to the Pistons, then he will be joining a squad with a ton of upside. The Pistons just finished as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference and had a decent record of 44 wins and 38 losses.
