John Calipari Endorses Boogie Fland’s NBA Potential Amid Transfer Buzz: ‘Going To Be a First Round Draft Pick’

Boogie Fland’s career moves have been making headlines over the past few days. First, he put his name in the 2025 NBA Draft and then on the NCAA transfer portal. You would think he would want to do anything but stay in Arkansas.

    What Does John Calipari Think?

However, Razorbacks coach John Calipari doesn’t see it that way and made that clear in a post on his X account, which has more than 1.5 million followers:

It’s clear that with his name in both the draft and the transfer portal, Fland has nothing but opportunities ahead of him. His main goal, of course, is to be selected in the draft, but if not, his options in college basketball remain wide open.

Whether or not his name comes up in the first round of picks remains to be seen, but what is hard to believe is that Fland will not be selected next June. According to ESPN, the 18-year-old point guard is ranked 48th on the list of players available for the draft, making Calipari’s predicted first-round pick a very plausible scenario. Should he not be selected in the first round, a second-round pick seems almost certain.

Calipari immediately saw the talent in the Bronx native. So much so that he gave him plenty of opportunities in the recently concluded season, even though it was his first at the collegiate level. It’s fair to say that Fland took advantage of those opportunities.

The still holder of the number 2 jersey on the Arkansas Razorback roster played in 21 games during the season, averaging 31.7 minutes, 13.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. He made over 30% of his three-point shots and nearly 40% of his two-point shots. As for free throws, he shot 83.3%.

With these results, he helped Arkansas advance to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division I Championship. There they lost to Texas Tech 83-85 in overtime.
