JJ Redick Provides Important Update on Luka Doncic’s Health as Calf Injury Sparks Concern

Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick has shared an all-important update on the status of his superstar player, Luka Doncic, who is dealing with a minor setback. On Tuesday, Dec. 23, Redick and the rest of his 2025-26 Lakers squad are facing coach Jordan Ott’s Phoenix Suns for the continuation of their regular season campaign on the latter’s home court, the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

It’s been reported that five-time All-NBA First Team member Luka Doncic will not be playing for the aforementioned regular-season matchup due to a left calf contusion he suffered against the Los Angeles Clippers last week.

Basketball analyst Dave McMenamin posted on his X/Twitter account that he was able to ask Redick himself about the status of Doncic and his injury. Redick remained optimistic that Doncic would return as soon as possible.

The Lakers currently have a record of 19-8, which places them at the No. 4 overall seed in the Western Conference standings. This is Doncic’s first full year with the team after he was traded after spending his first seven seasons with coach Jason Kidd’s Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 1, 2025. In his eighth NBA campaign, Doncic is looking to win his first championship with the Lakers.

JJ Redick Could Not Provide Any Other Information About Luka Doncic’s Injury During The Post-Game Presser

During the post-game press conference of the Los Angeles Lakers’ last regular-season game against coach Tyronn Lue’s Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, Dec. 20, Redick was asked about Doncic’s injury.

Unfortunately for the interviewers and media members, Redick had no other details on his player’s setback, as he merely saw him limping while walking.

“I don’t, I don’t have any other information. He just came to me at halftime. I saw him wobbling at the end of the first half. He came to me at halftime and said, ‘He couldn’t go.’ That’s all I have,” Redick Said.

Doncic suffered the injury when he collided with Clippers sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic in the first half of their game, and sat out the rest of the night as his team lost, 103-88.
