After enjoying a breakout season in 2024/25, Commodore’s leading scorer is moving on from Vanderbilt.
Jason Edwards has entered the transfer portal in an attempt to find a new program and is also testing the NBA draft waters. The 6’1 guard averaged 17.0 points and led Vanderbilt to its first NCAA tournament since 2017. Edwards said He’d return to Vanderbilt next season, but he has now decided to take his talents to another college should he not head to the NBA.
Edwards was the Commodores’ primary option on offense this season, and his exit will leave a huge gap in the team, a gap that head coach Mark Byington must now look to fill.

5 Potential landing spots for Jason Edwards
Georgia
Talented Bulldogs guard Silas Demary Jr. entered the transfer portal and has left a hole on Georgia’s roster. At some point in the season, Head Coach Mike White said Demary was playing “as well as just any guard in college basketball.”
Edwards is from Atlanta, and if he’s also interested in staying in the SEC, Georgia could be an option.
Alabama
Alabama’s star guard, Mark Sears, is leaving for the NBA, and coach Nate Oats will look to the transfer portal for a replacement. Edwards is one of the best guards available in the portal, and Alabama could be a new home for him if he doesn’t go pro this year.
Texas
Vanderbilt was beaten earlier in the season by the Texas Longhorns, and Edwards witnessed firsthand what is on offer at Texas. New head coach Sean Miller took Arizona to the Elite Eight three times.
Miller will use the portal to add talents to his Texas roster, and Edwards is an exciting option.
Virginia
Virginia just appointed a new head coach, Ryan Odom, who has wasted no time reaching out to potential recruits. Reports suggest he’s reached out to guards like Izaiah Pasha, Brandon Jennings, and others.
It seems that Odom is particularly interested in that position, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Edwards becomes an option.
Memphis
The Memphis Tigers are losing PJ Carter, Jared Harris, and Baraka Okojie, and head coach Penny Hardaway has shown interest in bringing in new guards.
