On Saturday, Ja Morant and Klay Thompson’s on-court tussle reached a tipping point. Morant tried sticking his finger on Thompson’s face, following which, Thompson did not spare any kind words to mince for the 25-year-old guard. When asked about what conversation he and Morant had, Thompson told the media,
““Nothing of intelligent depth.”
Adding further to his stance, Thompson replied,
” Just running his [Ja Morant] mouth. He’s been running his mouth for a long time and it’s funny to run your mouth when you’re on the bench. It’s kind of the story of his career so far, just leaving us wanting more. You know, we all want to see him out there and do his best but he’s just been letting a lot of other stuff get in the way of that. We need that in the NBA, we need our best players to be out there.”
To conclude, Thompson said being a star comes with great responsibility, and he “hated” seeing Morant’s potential “go to waste.” It isn’t like Morant did not take notice of any of this further when the issue blew up following Thompson’s statement.
Finding himself embroiled in yet another controversy, Morant let his feelings be known in a cryptic manner through his retweets. Hip-hop artist NBA Youngboy(worth $20 million), who is known to be close to Morant, wrote on X
“Stop putting narratives on shit”
This was retweeted by Morant on his X timeline.

Morant is currently suffering from an injury and did not play in the game where he sparred against Klay Thompson. The Grizzlies, however, were able to secure a 102-96 win, thus pushing Dallas to 5-13.
Shannon Sharpe supports Klay Thompson’s statement on Ja Morant
Ja Morant, by far, has had the highest share of controversies amongst NBA players in the recent decade. From his early troubles for flashing a gun to getting into heated exchanges with NBA veterans, Morant has seen it all. Former NFL player Shannon Sharpe also took notice of this incident and reacted to it on his podcast show called ‘Nightcap.’
““I don’t know what was said. I don’t know what would make Ja put his finger in the man’s face. I mean, I don’t know how did he get Klay to react?” said sharpe (2:25)
Sharpe tried understanding Thompson’s perspective on this issue. He concluded it was one of the most natural reactions for any veteran players to have. Further, Sharpe’s co-host, Ocho Cinco, also highlighted how sometimes NBA players may have a personal vendetta. But there seemed to be none between Morant and Thompson. Sharpe assumed this to be an attitude issue for Ja Morant, who has not faced something like this for the first time in a while.
