The Truth About Jabri Abdur-Rahim’s Connection to Shareef Abdur-Rahim

Jabri Abdur-Rahim is more than just a rising basketball star. He’s the son of former NBA All-Star Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who made a name for himself playing with the Vancouver Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks, and Sacramento Kings.

Born on March 22, 2002, in Mountain View, California, the talented athlete followed in his father’s footsteps, choosing basketball as his path. His high school journey began at Seton Hall Prep before transferring to Blair Academy in New Jersey, where his dedication earned him recognition as a four-star recruit.

His college career has seen plenty of movement. He started at Virginia, later transferring to Georgia, where he played for three seasons. Most recently, he spent a year at Providence, contributing to the Friars’ campaign.

Now, according to Joe Tipton, he’s pursuing a medical hardship waiver, seeking an extra year of eligibility after facing emotional struggles following the loss of his uncle, Amir Abdur-Rahim. If granted, he could remain in college basketball for another season.

Alongside his waiver request, the Providence standout has also entered the transfer portal, opening the possibility of joining a new program. If he makes a move, it would mark his fourth college team in six years. Meanwhile, if he stays, he could return to Friars for the 2025–26 season.

Their athletic talent runs deep in their family. His late uncle, Amir, was the head coach at the University of South Florida, leading the team to an American Athletic Conference regular-season title before his passing.

Meanwhile, his father has transitioned into leadership roles. Since 2018, Shareef Abdur-Rahim has served as the president of the NBA G League, bringing his experience as a former player and league executive into the role.

Shareef, originally from Marietta, Georgia, is the second of twelve siblings. Now, he and his wife, Delicia, are proud parents of two. Jabri’s younger sister, Samiyah, is also making waves in athletics, competing in college volleyball at TCU.

Jabri Abdur-Rahim might turn out to be one of the biggest surprises in college basketball. He isn’t getting much hype, but that could work in his favor. With low expectations, he has the perfect chance to prove people wrong and shine.
