Shaqir O’Neal: Carving Out His Own Identity
Shaqir O’Neal’s 2024-25 season at Florida A&M was kind of a game-changer for him. He’s a 6’7″ forward, and this year he really found his groove. On average, he put up about 6.7 points and grabbed 3.4 rebounds in just 18 minutes a game. He started in 17 out of 29 games, and his shooting was pretty solid- he hit just over 50% of his shots and knocked down almost 38% from three.
Shaqir threw down a massive dunk that actually made it onto ESPN’s SportsCenter Top Ten. That was a big deal and showed people he’s got some serious potential- he’s not just “Shaq’s son.”
What really makes Shaqir stand out is how versatile he is on the court. He’s not like his dad, who basically owned the paint. Shaqir’s more of a wing player-he’s great on the fast break and can shoot from deep, which stretches the defense.
He’s gotten way better at finishing around the rim, too, so he’s become a pretty reliable player at the HBCU level. Sure, he’s not a superstar yet, but he’s definitely making an impact.

Shaquille O’Neal: A Generational Force at the Same Age
When Shaquille O’Neal was just 21, he was already making history. In his very first NBA season with the Orlando Magic, Shaq put up some good numbers- he averaged 23.4 points, almost 14 rebounds, and blocked 3.5 shots a game. That’s huge for a rookie! No surprise, he won Rookie of the Year and even made the All-Star team right out of the gate.
Shaq was a giant on the court-literally. He stood 7’1″ and weighed 325 pounds, so when he got the ball in the paint, there was pretty much no stopping him. He was famous for his crazy power, surprising quickness, and that “Black Tornado” spin move he loved to use.
From the moment he showed up, Shaq made a massive difference. The Magic won 20 more games than they had the year before, and he quickly became one of the best centers in the league. Teams actually had to rethink how they played defense just because of him.
At this point, Shaquille had become the mainstone of his team and a future leader in the NBA Hall of Fame. He excelled so much due to his skills and basketball understanding that very few could follow.
