Former Memphis PJ Haggerty is one of the big prizes still available on the NCAA men’s basketball transfer portal. Although rumors are circulating about his next destination, everything seems to point to him going to the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
However, his financial aspirations have been the major storyline of his transfer. Available reports indicate that he is seeking a NIL contract well above what he received.

How much is PJ Haggerty Worth?
PJ Haggerty was in the spotlight last season for his outstanding court performances and his $1.7 million NIL, which ranked him sixth among all NCAA men’s basketball players.
However, all signs indicate the 21-year-old guard is set on a much more lucrative future. According to a USA Today report citing expert Jeff Goodman, Haggerty is expected to earn no less than $4 million in NIL for the upcoming season.
To put that amount in perspective, only Duke superstar Cooper Flagg has surpassed it ($4.8 million).
Not surprisingly, this reported aspiration has not found much fertile ground, according to Goodman himself:
“A lot of these bigger schools are saying there’s no way. Whether it’s St. John’s, whether it’s Baylor, whether it’s Indiana, whether it’s Kansas, whether it’s Florida − I’m told all of them are out at that asking price ($4 million),” he said on the Field of 68 podcast in early April.
Whether the amount Goodman was quoted wasn’t as close to reality as one might think or because Haggerty and his team have decided to take a more realistic approach, new information has begun to circulate about his NIL aspirations.
Journalist Rob Reinhardt recently reported that the 6’3″ player seeks a $2.5 million NIL contract.
That’s a sum that seems much closer to Haggerty’s possibilities. Receiving that amount would place him third among the highest-paid players in NCAA basketball right now, taking a cue from the list still topped by Flagg, though in just over a month, he’ll be a major storyline in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Haggerty was one of Memphis’ top players last season, appearing in 35 games and averaging 36.7 minutes per game.
