St. John’s is on a six-game winning streak, and is the 15th-best team in the nation. They sit with an overall record of 17-3 and are 12-8 against the spread. On the road, the Red Storm are 2-2 against the spread. They sit at 8-1 in the Big East with their only loss coming on the road against Creighton.

Georgetown sits with a 13-7 record and a 4-5 record against Big East opponents. Ironically enough when Georgetown is an away underdog they are 3-1 against the spread, but as a home underdog they sit with a 1-2 record against the spread.

The line in this game opened at St. John’s -4.5 and has moved a full point down to St. John’s -3.5, something to definitely notice, as sharps seem to like the Hoyas in this one.

Prediction For St. John’s vs. Georgetown

St. John’s, on paper, is significantly better than Georgetown. They have performed way better against Big East teams than Georgetown has, and are a solid road team sitting with a 3-1 record. So why is the spread only 3.5 points?

This seems like a trap line and I love Georgetown to cover in this game. Despite only having a 1-2 record against the spread as a home underdog, the Hoyas a 10-3 record at home this year. They play well in front of their home crowd and — spoiler alert — I think they cover 3.5 tonight.

St. John’s has only lost three games, but its one loss in the Big East was on the road. I don’t think they’ll lose outright, but I imagine this game to remain tight and will come down to the wire.

I would stay away from the total in this game. Georgetown’s games have gone over 14 times and under only five times, while St. John’s games have gone over 10 times and under 10 times.

I don’t love the under, but that’s the way I’m leaning.

Trap games are trap games for a reason. Vegas loves to make money on people who think at top 15 team should be favored by more than a few points. This line is dropping, which shows the sharps aren’t falling for the small margin. Instead, they’re looking to take advantage of the home underdog.

Forward Thomas Sorber and guard Micah Peavy each went for over 25 points last game and though the Hoyas are mired in a losing streak, I like the home team to keep it close.

Overall this game should be a tight battle between two conference rivals. Look for Georgetown to keep this game close throughout in a potential matchup that goes down to the wire. I think the Red Storm win, but it won’t be comfortable. Accordingly, take the underdog Hoyas.

    Prediction: St. John’s 65, Georgetown 63
