Back-to-Back Loading? Florida’s ‘Scary’ 2025-26 Roster Could Be Billy Donovan-Era Level

The Florida Gators roster for the upcoming season is not official yet, but it is already a fact that they lost Denzel Aberdeen, Sam Alexis and Kajus Kublickas through the transfer portal. Walter Clayton Jr. and Alex Condon left for the NBA Draft, but the fingers are crossed that the latter will return next season.

However, the team has guaranteed to maintain its level by adding Boogie Fland, AJ Brown and Xaivian Lee. In fact, the roster now looks stronger than before, if that is possible.

Florida Gators Roster has Legendary Potential

If, as many expect, Condon withdraws his name from the NBA Draft and returns for another season with the Gators, the team could have a starting dream team to defend its NCAA title.

This is what Florida could look like next season:

    • G Xaivian Lee
    • G Boogie Fland
    • F Thomas Haugh
    • F Alex Condon
    • C Rueben Chinyelu

This is a group of players that needs little introduction. They all averaged at least 9.9 points per game last season, with the exception of Chinyelu (6), who was a backup.

In addition, head coach Todd Golden can count on an unparalleled group of reserves, including luxury guard AJ Brown, who averaged 13.2 points per game for the Ohio Bobcats last season.

Such a constellation of stars evokes past glories, as this could be a group of players worthy of building a dynasty in the style of Billy Donovan, when the Gators had their first great moment of glory.

Let’s remember that Donovan’s tenure as head coach of the Florida Gators men’s basketball team (1996–2015) transformed the program into a national powerhouse. Under his leadership, the Gators achieved unprecedented success, including back-to-back NCAA Championships (2006-2007) and multiple SEC titles (cuatro del Championship y seis de la temporada regular).

When he left to coach the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, Donovan left his record with the Gators at 501 wins and 206 losses.

The current state of college basketball is not the same as it was then, with NIL contracts and the transfer portal making it difficult to keep a team for more than one season. However, the Gators’ potential roster allows them to dream of contending again and, why not, giving Florida a second national title in a row.
