Soon after, the point guard, who helped lead the Tigers to a Final Four appearance last March, took to his Instagram Stories and released a statement regarding his DUI arrest. He admitted that he made a mistake, took full responsibility and apologized for his DUI arrest, adding that he had no excuses for his behavior.

“Last night, I made a serious mistake and one that I take full responsibility for. My actions put muself and others at risk, and for that, I am deeplu sorry. There is no excuse,” Tahaad Pettiford wrote in his Instagram story.

“To my family, teammates, coaches, and fans, I know I’ve let you down. I understand the disappointment and concern this has caused, and I want you to know that I’m taking this seriously. This is not who I am and not who I will be,” he added. “I’m committed to learing from this moment and making meaningful, positive changes in my life. I’m grateful for the support and accountability of those around me, and I will work to earn back the trust I’ve lost.”

This statement has some fans praising the Auburn point guard on Reddit:

“A refreshing response to be sure. No dodging blame, no outsourcing the accountability. Mint,” the fan commented.

“Can only hope that he lives up to this. Tahaad seems like a good kid and I’m not gonna kill him over this, but he cannot repeat this mistake,” noted one fan.

“Kids make mistakes. We all did. Props to owing it,” added another.

“Good enough for me. Seems like a good guy that made a bad mistake,” one person pointed out.

“That’s a nice message,” one person said.

Tahaad Pettiford was arrested for DUI in Lee County, Alabama on Saturday morning, but was subsequently released after posting bail. He was also in trouble for underage drinking, which the state of Alabama strictly enforces, as he is only 19 years old.

Auburn Head Coach Bruce Pearl Issues Statement Regarding Star Guard Tahaad Pettiford

Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has placed a lot of belief in his star point guard, Tahaad Pettiford, who is considered one of the best point guards in the conference. After Pettiford’s DUI arrest, the coach released a statement:

“We are aware of the situation and we will handle internally with Tahaad and his family,” Pearl said, “We take these matters seriously and will learn and grow from it moving forward.”

As a freshman, Pettiford averaged 11.6 points and three assists per game and was about to return to lead the team again as its point guard. However, his DUI arrest may have set this back, though it is not clear if Pettiford will be getting any disciplinary actions from the school.
