‘Who’s Doing the Graphics’ – Fans React as ESPN Confuses Brice Williams for Sion James on Draft Night

The NBA draft has been going smoothly until round 2 began, and ESPN had a little graphics mistake. In a flub, ESPN placed Brice Williams’ image for what was supposed to be Sion James for the picks the Charlotte Hornets have made, and fans have certainly noticed the mistake.

In the graphic, ESPN put out that the Charlotte Hornets picked Kon Knueppel at No. 4, Liam McNeely at No. 29, Sion Hames at No. 33, and Ryan Kalkbrenner at No. 34. While the other three were the correct persons, fans were quick to point out the mistake.

“Who’s doing the graphics for ESPN 🤦🏾‍♀️. This is NOT Sion James.” wrote one person.

X, formerly Twitter, soon exploded with fans talking about the big ESPN graphics mistake.

“THAT IS NOT SION JAMES🤣🤣,” one person tweeted.

“Uhhh… that is NOT Sion James. That’s Brice Williams. 💀💀 #NBADraft,” another person pointed out.

“that’s not Sion James man wtf is ESPN doing lmaooooo,” another fan noted.

“@ESPNNBA @espn that is NOT Sion James……ya’ll are pathetic,” another fan reacted to the ESPN fumble.

“ESPN has dropped, fumbled, butchered, blundered, and made a muck of this entire event honestly,” said another fan.

This was supposed to be a big night for Sion James, who was a teammate of Cooper Flagg at Duke. Fans knew who he was and were quick to admonish ESPN for confusing him with Brice Williams.

Charlotte Hornets are getting a defensive specialist in drafting Duke’s Sion James

Even though his night was hampered by a graphics mistake, it was still one of the biggest nights of Sion James’ life. In getting James, the Charlotte Hornets are getting one of the best defensive minds in the ACC, being named the ACC All-Defensive team after averaging 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists during his graduate season with the Blue Devils.

He started his career at Tulane, playing for four years at the school where he averaged 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He won the AAC Sportsmanship Award during his time there, before transferring to Durham after his senior year.

Right after picking Sion James, the Hornets then picked Ryan Kalkbrenner at No. 34 from Creighton. He is a rim protector who played five seasons with the school. averaging 19.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.7 blocks per game. He was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year for four years in a row, which means that with those two picks, the Hornets were seeking to beef up their defense.
