Fans Mock Auburn Transfer Addarin Scott for Getting His School’s Name Wrong

Auburn forward Addarin Scott has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, but it’s not his on-court performance that’s making headlines—it’s his farewell tweet.

The reserve forward, who spent the past two seasons with the Tigers, faced online backlash after some crucial typos following his announcement regarding his departure from the program.

Fans Roast Auburn Transfer Addarin Scott For Typo in Tweet

Addarin Scott, who transferred to Auburn from JUCO Navarro College, thanked the program in a tweet.

“Thankful for the opportunity to be apart of the Univ of Auburn [sic] and basketball family the last two years. Thank you to my coaches, teammates and support staff for the incredible experience. With my final two years of elgibility [sic] I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal,” he wrote.

The internet didn’t miss a beat. Fans were quick to point out two glaring errors:

    1. Auburn is officially known as Auburn University, not the “University of Auburn.”
    2. The word “eligibility” was misspelled as “elgibility.”

In classic Twitter fashion, fans took the opportunity to poke fun.

The tweet quickly gained traction among SEC fans and rival fan bases, sparking jokes and memes that added insult to injury. While it may have been a simple typo and a common mix-up, it opened the door for internet mockery.

    Addarin Scott’s Time at Auburn

The 6’8″ forward had a quiet stint at Auburn. After averaging 9.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game during the 2022-23 season at Navarro College, expectations were modest for what Scott could bring to Bruce Pearl’s squad.

In his first year with the Tigers, he appeared in 15 games, averaging just 0.4 points per game. He was redshirted during the 2023-24 season, giving him an extra year of eligibility under the NCAA’s JUCO blanket waiver rule.

Despite his limited minutes, Pearl once expressed hope that Scott could become a valuable role player off the bench. However, that never came to fruition.

Scott enters the portal with two years of eligibility remaining and will look to rediscover his JUCO form at a new destination. A move to a mid-major program where he can see more playing time and development could be ideal for the former JUCO standout.

While the internet may be having fun at his expense now, Scott still has time to rewrite the narrative. A successful run at a new school could put him back on the radar and potentially set the stage for a professional career overseas or in the G League.

Whether it’s a minor typo or a lesson in proofreading, Scott’s goodbye tweet has now become part of his story. In today’s social media age, even the smallest slip-up can become a headline.

Still, for Addarin Scott, the next chapter begins, and hopefully, it’s one spelled correctly.
