Fans Divided on Ja Morant’s Future as Rumors of Move From Memphis Intensify

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant may have found a new destination if he were to be traded away from the franchise he has spent his entire career with. On Sunday, Dec. 6, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported via @TheDunkCentral on X/Twitter that coach Erik Spoelstra’s Miami Heat have planned a potential trade package for Morant.

This comes as the 26-year-old is growing increasingly disgruntled with coach Tuomas Iisalo’s Grizzlies. Memphis has an overall record of 11-13, which places them as the No. 9 overall seed in the Western Conference. A change of scenery may be what Morant needs to get back to his MVP level of play he had in his third year in the league.

Basketball fans had mixed thoughts on the idea of Morant playing for a big-market franchise like the Heat.

“I love Ja, but I don’t think Miami is where he needs to be 😬,” one fan claimed with an emoji.

“He’s got mad skills but is he really worth all that hype? Miami might just be setting themselves up for a circus act with him,” another fan questioned.

“I’ll be honest, I don’t think the Heat take a swing on this unless the price is too good to pass up,” another user shared.

“Ja in Miami prolly not a good idea gang 😭,” a user wrote with a crying emoji.

“YOOOOO I AM NOT OPPOSED TO THIS,” one user exclaimed.

“Dude is washed, what are we doing,” another user said.

“Goes over, bring down the team 😐,” a user pointed out with an emoji.

If Morant does end up joining the Heat right before this season’s trade deadline, he will be joining a formidable team out East that is having an offensively efficient campaign. Miami currently has a winning record of 14-10, which ranks them as the No. 7 seed in the conference. They will look to break their current three-game losing streak when they face the Orlando Magic on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Ja Morant Has Appeared In Only 12 Games This Year

Out of the 26 games that the Memphis Grizzlies have played in the 2025-26 season, Ja Morant has only been able to suit up for 12 of them so far, which is less than half.

Morant is currently dealing with a right calf strain that he suffered in mid-November during a game against coach Kenny Atkinson’s Cleveland Cavaliers. Now looking to get back as soon as possible, Morant is in his seventh season in the NBA.
