Nico Harrison’s firing was a long time coming in the league. On Tuesday, the Dallas Mavericks announced the same while the chatter had already confirmed it days ahead. But many actually believe that the former Mavericks GM might have taken certain steps that was in a way sabotaging the Dallas Mavericks organization and its players.
The Athletic reported that Harrison had urged Anthony Davis to return early from his calf injury, despite warnings from the medical staff that it could lead to a tear in AD’s Achilles if he came back too soon. Fairly so, AD’s form seemed to be faltering by the day and he is only the shell of himself that he was back in his early days at New Orleans or with the Lakers.

Fans on X now believe that Nico Harrison might actually have been deliberately taking such decisions that harmed Dallas in the long run. Alongside, there are several conspiracies being speculated online. One fan said,
“I’m convinced that Nico was paid off to destroy the Mavs and the NBA stepped in and gave them Cooper Flagg.”
Another fan added,
“He should take as much time as possible to heal. NBA doesn’t need another Achilles.”
This fan added,
“Dude has multiple fireable offenses on his resume.”
Another fan said,
“Sounds almost exactly like what they did to Luka and then called him fat and lazy and accused him of ‘taking a vacation’ when he was injured and was listening to the medical staff….”
This fan said,
“Bro was desperate to not get fired.”
Many fans assumed that Harrison was trying to do damage control in all forms and manners to mitigate the mess after the Luka Doncic trade. However, none of that seemed to add up in his favor. As of now, the Dallas Mavericks need to urgently rebuild their squad, given they currently stand 3-8 in the Western Conference. Coming off a Western Conference appearance in 2024 to standing at the bottom of the table in 2025, the Mavs might be looking for a GM that could steadily undo all of the troubles the franchise is now embroiled into.
Nico Harrison’s Firing Has Called For Dallas Mavericks To Offload Their Vets
The pressure upon the Dallas Mavericks to build a roster around their young core, especially Cooper Flagg, is now rising. There are rumors already building around Anthony Davis to be potentially traded by the franchise. However, many veterans and analysts also believe it’s imminent for the Mavs to start shopping their vets.
Celtics legend Paul Pierce also echoes the same sentiment. On the ‘No Fouls Given’ podcast, Pierce put up an interesting proposition to trade Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson and start building around Cooper Flagg. He said,
“I think you actively start having to shop the vets. Klay, AD, Kyrie. We got the No.1 pick [Cooper Flagg], we got a future. We got one Building Block.”
It’s not just Paul Pierce. Danny Green also suggested how Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively II, and PJ Washington could also find their ways out of the franchise. In all essence, the Mavs need to start building afresh around Cooper Flagg, the way they did around Luka Doncic. And this might possibly be the only way out.
