When Did VJ Edgecombe Pass Ace Bailey? Fans Divided As Debate Heats Up Before 2025 NBA Draft

Debate is heating up about two of the biggest prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft. VJ Edgecombe and Ace Bailey are neck-and-neck, and it’s difficult to pick one ahead of the other, as both genuinely have strong claims to being top-three selections next month.

Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper are widely expected to be the top two picks in this draft, leaving Edgecombe and Bailey to battle for the remaining spots. This has led to a heated debate among fans over who is the better prospect between them, and if Edgecombe has passed Bailey.

Fans Divided Over VJ Edgecombe and Ace Bailey

Fans’ opinions are split over who is the better prospect between Edgecombe and Bailey, prompting a debate on social media platforms.

“When did VJ pass Ace as a prospect?,” a fan posted on Reddit. “I’m legit confused how a 6 ‘4 guard with no handle and no shot creation is getting more hype than the 6’ 7 wing who can score without a legit handle. It seems even if Ace doesn’t improve his handle, he still has a higher ceiling than VJ.”

“Also, Ace was the clear second option. VJ was arguably the first option and still couldn’t outscore Ace as the second option. Coming into the draft, the conversation was Flagg vs. Bailey.

“After watching the games, it became clear Harper had jumped Bailey. What never changed for me is someone jumping Bailey. But here we are and people are in love with VJ,” the user concluded.”

The post has garnered a lot of attention, with fans expressing their opinions. One user disagreed with the post, stating that Bailey has a lower floor. The user also stated that although Edgecombe doesn’t have a half-court offense, his fast-break ability and defense are basically a lock to translate to the next level.

However, another user stated that Edgecombe isn’t necessarily better than Bailey, and the decision on who is better could boil down to personal preferences.

“I don’t think he is, but it is a matter of preference. The way the draft shook out, I think Bailey is the best at No. 3 to go to Philadelphia,” another user posted.

Bailey appears to have shouldered most of the blame for Rutgers’ poor season. However, the 18-year-old averaged 17.6 points and seven rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the field and 34 percent from three.

Edgecombe is widely perceived to be an all-rounder. The 19-year-old had an impressive freshman season. He averaged 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, giving him a strong case as one of the best athletes in the draft class.
