“I Still Hate the Guy”: Ex-NBA Pro Sounds Off on Chris Paul’s Shocking Exit from Clippers

Recently dismissed Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul is getting more recognition from his peers, including a former NBA All-Star who is upset with his exit. On Thursday, Dec. 4, a carousel post was uploaded to @runitbackfdtv on Instagram that shows a couple of clips of former NBA player DeMarcus Cousins sounding off on the unexpected letting go of Paul by the Clippers franchise just recently.

This is because Paul is considered to be one of the greatest players to ever play for the team, and had plans of retiring from his 21-year NBA career with them after this season. Much to the surprise of many, including Cousins, Paul is expected to be waived soon, which is tremendously unwarranted according to Cousins. For the former NBA big man, Paul is one of the all-time greats of the sport.

“ Now you moving to this situation and he’s at a different point in his career and now it’s being turned into a negative and that’s the part I hate about the NBA and I hate how they do veterans towards the end of their careers. It’s like your experience, your knowledge, your advice no longer means anything because you know you’re on your way out of the league, when it shouldn’t be,” Cousins said.

“That way at all should actually be the complete opposite. And, I know I’ve been critical of CP in the past and, you know, I still hate the sh*t out the guy. But at the end of the day, he deserves his flowers and you can never knock him for being one of the greats in this game. First Ball Hall of Famer, no question,” he concluded.

Coach Tyrone Lue’s Clippers are seemingly waiving Paul as they have struggled mightily this 2025-26 NBA season with a lowly 6-16 record to sit as the No. 13 seed in the Western Conference. For Cousins, he has now carved out a career as a podcaster and co-host after his last playing stint in the league came in the 2021-2022 season with the Denver Nuggets and had overseas appearances afterwards.

DeMarcus Cousins Reiterates That Chris Paul Deserves More Respect Than He Is Currently Getting

Also in the latest edition of the Run It Back TV show, DeMarcus Cousins doubled down on his claim regarding Chris Paul and the fact that he deserves more love and respect than he is currently getting. According to Cousins, Paul has served as a vocal leader to both younger and older players than him, through which he seeks shared accountability each time that he has made his team into one with a winning culture.

“ In the words of Draymond (Green), they don’t love you like that. And this is a, this is so apparent in this situation. I can’t sit here and say I agree with it. I think this is complete BS. He is one of the greats in this game. He’s probably one of the last great pick and roll PG’s to ever play this game. He put the Clippers on the map, him and Blake Griffin,” Cousins shared.

“I just feel more respect is deserved in this situation, and the real issue I have with all of this is the same reason you love them is not the reason you hate them,” he added.
