EA Sports CEO Offers Fans Thrilling Insight Into Upcoming College Basketball Video Game

EA Sports’ upcoming college basketball video game will be bigger than ever. EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed during his company’s quarterly earnings call that the goal for the newest installment of “College Basketball” is to include all men’s and women’s NCAA Division I basketball teams.

EA Sports announced plans to bring back the popular college basketball game in June, with the target release date set for 2028. The video game developer decided to revive “College Basketball” after finding enormous success with the release of “College Football.” According to Yahoo! Sports, EA earned more than $400 million in sales from College Football 25.

Wilson noted that for EA Sports’ upcoming college basketball game, it will use the same formula that made the college football game so successful. He said that College Basketball will capture “the action on the field or the court” and celebrate “the unique sights and sounds and stories of every school and rivalry.”

“We feel like we deliver that incredibly well with College Football,” Wilson told Insider-Gaming’s Mike Straw. “We’d love to do the same for basketball. All 350 programs, men’s and women’s teams. The iconic traditions and rivalries, and of course, March Madness.”

Wilson added that college sports are an exciting opportunity for EA, and they will look to make the most of it with their newest college basketball offering.

“We believe that with what we’ve done with the teams, the technology, and our commitment around College Football, we’d have a great ability to do the same for college basketball, and as we look to try and activate against that opportunity, we’ll be able to share more,” Wilson added.

Wilson shared that fandom in college basketball is continuing to grow, and it is that passion that will make their video games special and different.

2K Sports Renews College Basketball Video Game Rivalry With EA Sports

EA Sports isn’t the only video game developer that is trying to tap into the college basketball market. 2K Sports revealed plans to create its own NCAA hoops game just hours after EA Sports announced the return of “College Basketball.”

2K Sports issued a statement through The Athletic’s Chris Vannini confirming its return to the NCAA basketball gaming market. They said that “2K is the undisputed home of basketball gaming” and they have a “strong history with college hoops.” The video game developer concluded its message by saying they are “exploring exciting new ways to bring athletes and schools to life” and that “class is in session.”
