The San Antonio Spurs have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and that good fortune has given them an interesting headache. Their roster has changed drastically in the last few hours with the acquisition of De’Aaron Fox, which may cause them to rethink their draft selection strategy.

Happy Dilemma for San Antonio Spurs’ No. 2 Overall Pick
Still, the players available at No. 2 are of such quality that the Spurs are unlikely to move up from Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, and VJ Edgecombe. The real difficulty will be deciding which of the three to select.
Renowned basketball analyst and “The Field of 68” co-founder Jeff Goodman says Mitch Johnson’s team should go with the most obvious choice.
The Spurs are going to have an interesting decision at No. 2.
Have Fox already. Do you take Dylan Harper anyway?
Ace Bailey has crazy ceiling, but is somewhat of an enigma.
VJ Edgecombe is talented, but may not fit what the Spurs need. Athletic, defensive-minded guard who…

The truth is, you can’t go wrong with any of these three options. Harper, Bailey, and Edgecombe only needed one season in the NCAA to prove they were ready for the top level.
Harper played the 2024-25 season at Rutgers, averaging 32.6 minutes per game in 29 games. He averaged 19.4 points per game and shot 48.4% on two-point shots.
His Scarlet Knights teammate, Bailey, was also a starter last season (33.4 minutes per game in 30 games). He averaged 17.6 points per game and shot 34.6% from beyond the arc.
Edgecombe, meanwhile, played in 33 games for Baylor, averaging over 32 minutes and over 15 points per game.
ESPN supports Goodman’s opinion and believes the Spurs will select Dylan Harper with the No. 2 pick. The same analysis points to Bailey as the No. 3 pick (going to the Philadelphia 76ers) and Edgecombe as the No. 4 pick (going to the Charlotte Hornets).
The No. 1 pick went to the Dallas Mavericks, who will be able to select the 2025 NBA Draft’s biggest star, former Duke’s Cooper Flagg.

The Spurs will also have the No. 14 pick, thanks to a trade with the Atlanta Hawks. According to ESPN, they could select Frenchman Noa Essengue, a 6’10” forward who will come from the German professional league.
Other options for the 14th pick could be Georgia’s Asa Newell and Brigham Young University’s Egor Demin.
