Who is Newbie Drew Timme and Who Will he Replace in Lakers Squad?

The LA Lakers, coached by JJ Redick, are looking to fortify their frontcourt rotation with their latest signing, who is coming from their developmental team. On Monday, Nov. 24, ESPN reporter and NBA insider Shams Charania announced that the Lakers are in the process of signing center Drew Timme from the South Bay Lakers to a two-way contract, which will allow him to play on both the main roster and in the G-League.

Timme is fresh off his time being a member of the Lakers’ G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, where he has been a key component of coach Zach Guthrie’s 2025-26 roster. So far this season, Timme has averaged 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.2 steals in around 33.7 minutes per game for South Bay, which has in turn led the team to a 5-1 overall record and a division lead.

Timme already has a previous stint playing in the NBA, as he played nine games for coach Jordi Fernandez’ Brooklyn Nets in the 2024-25 campaign. He signed with the franchise in March of this year, but was waived at the start of this season and then picked up by South Bay. He played college basketball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs from 2019 to 2023 and went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The new deal with Timme comes at a time when the Lakers hold a 12-4 overall record in the early season, placing them as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Los Angeles is preparing for an in-city matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday, Nov. 25, on their home floor.

Who Is Drew Timme Replacing On The Los Angeles Lakers’ Main 2025-26 Roster?

Drew Timme’s signing will result in the waiving of big man Christian Koloko, as reported by Shams Charania on X/Twitter.

Koloko was selected by coach Darko Rajakovic’s Toronto Raptors with the 33rd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft. After spending some time with the Raptors 905 squad, the LA Lakers picked him up on a two-way deal in September 2024.
