The ongoing social media battle between Drew Schifino and sports commentator Dan Dakich escalated dramatically this week. Schifino, uncle of Philadelphia 76ers guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, unleashed a scathing attack on Dakich, threatening physical confrontation and criticizing both his coaching and playing careers.

Schifino-Dakich Beef From Recent Provocations, Not 2002 History
The heated exchange began with Drew Schifino responding to a post from Dan Dakich that was later deleted. Schifino tweeted, “You are a b*** to me. I was hoping to see you at IU so I could’ve beat tf outta you on camera. You sucked as a coach, you sucked as a player.”
Dakich dismissively responded, “If I had a nickel for everyone that was gonna beat tf outta me, I’d be richer than I already am.”
This exchange represents the latest chapter in a public feud that has intensified in recent months. Despite references to 2002, the feud primarily stems from recent social media exchanges rather than direct historical conflict.
Following the initial exchange, Schifino escalated with an NSFW tweet slamming Dakich.
“My guy @dandakich, you don’t have to bring me up always. I’m always chilling, and you’re always running your f****** racist mouth. You are a b*** to me, I b***** you back in 2002, you begged me to stay. Stfu. You hate IU bc they know you are a f****** clown. You sucked in bball also,” Schifino posted, ending the tweet with a “clown” emoji.
The specific content of Dakich’s deleted post that triggered Schifino’s response remains unknown, but it appears to have been provocative enough to elicit a strong reaction. The day before, Dakich had posted about another coach leaving WVU.
“DeVries did what every non-cheating, non-drunk hoops coach does at WVU… Get The Hell Out ASAP.” This comment about Schifino’s alma mater may have contributed to the rising tensions.
The public feud began in December 2023 when Dakich claimed Schifino was “kicked out of WVU twice.”
Schifino forcefully countered, “I’m still laughing at this character @dandakich claiming I was kicked out of WVU twice. How’s that possible? I’ll remember for being the last player to avg 20pts at WVU, while you’ll be remembered as the coach that got canned from WVU after 5 days.”
While Dakich did have a notoriously brief tenure at WVU in 2002, resigning after just one week, citing concerns about potential NCAA violations, there’s no documented direct confrontation between him and Schifino during that period. The current feud appears more rooted in recent provocations than in their brief overlapping history at the university.
Dakich defended his coaching career in December, tweeting, “I get it… haven’t won a thing in those 22… again, my leaving cost WVU 2 NCAA Titles and made former players (and their uncles) cry.” The antagonism between the two continued to simmer for months before erupting again in April.

The public nature of their dispute has resonated with basketball fans from both schools. As one social media user commented while sharing a GIF from the movie Dodgeball, “Drew out here bringing the IU and WVU fanbases together over the hatred of Dan Dakich!”
For followers of college basketball, this conflict represents an unusual alliance against the often-polarizing Dakich.
Schifino’s basketball career at WVU was notable. He averaged 20.1 points per game during his sophomore year before eventually transferring. He has remained protective of his legacy at the school, while Dakich has maintained his provocative commentary style, which has frequently generated controversy throughout his media career.
