When Boogie Fland entered the transfer portal, it sent ripples through college basketball. The Bronx-bred five-star baller, Fland, was not so long ago a projected lottery pick in the NBA Draft. But after an injury-marred season with Arkansas, Fland has decided to wait a little longer before entering the league.
The former McDonald’s All-American officially withdrew from the draft on May 13, putting college teams back on red alert. With the kind of handles and court vision that Fland has, he won’t be staying a free agent for long. If that wasn’t enough, he already has a visit scheduled.

Boogie Fland to Visit Florida
Fland will be heading to Gainesville soon. The Bronx-bred guard will be visiting the Florida Gators on Monday and Tuesday. And it is safe to say that the Gators have a good chance of landing him. Fland, after all, is not just another transfer.

Fland is the No. 3 point guard and No. 10 overall player in the portal, per On3. And Florida just happens to be coming off a national championship run with a starting five that’s NBA-bound. But can Fland keep up with names like Rueben Chinyelu, Alex Condon, Will Richard, Alijah Martin, and Walter Clayton Jr?
Well, let’s take a look at Fland’s stats. In his only season with Arkansas, Fland averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.2 boards per game. He had a shooting 37.9% from the field and 34.0% from deep. That is not bad at all. But soon after, things changed.
Fland had a brutal hand injury that benched him until the NCAA Tournament. Sure, he looked rusty in the Big Dance with an unfortunate 4-for-18 shooting stretch. But that does not mean that scouts don’t see the raw potential he brings. And for the Florida Gators, that just might be what they want.
Florida just said goodbye to a backcourt that ran college basketball. Walter Clayton Jr., after dropping 18.3 PPG, is off to the draft. So are Alijah Martin and Will Richard. Those names scream legacy. Now with the big names leaving, where does Fland fit into this powerhouse puzzle?
Well, for starters, Florida’s backcourt isn’t empty. It is being rebuilt. With Clayton, Martin, and Richard all gone, there’s a gaping hole in the Gators’ starting five. Fland might just have a chance to lead. Fland was, after all, Mr. New York Basketball and the No. 1 point guard in the 2024 recruiting class.

Of course, it won’t all fall on Fland. Florida’s got transfers AJ Brown and Xaivian Lee in the mix. But Fland would be the one setting the tempo. Florida’s still being projected as a Top 25 team next season. Add Fland to that mix, and the Gators might just become a squad that might just runs it back.
The Gators need someone who can score, dish, and lead in crunch time. Fland’s got all three plus a little Bronx grit. So does he fit? If his visit goes well and he might suit up in orange and blue. Fland might not just fit into Florida’s starting five. He might own it.
