Did ACE Family Founder, Social Media Influencer Austin McBroom Play College Basketball?

Today, content creator Austin McBroom is best known as a social media sensation, largely thanks to his 5.5 million Instagram followers. Add to that his more than 11,000 subscribers on YouTube and his 1.5 million followers on X, and he has built quite the following.

However, before his internet fame, McBroom had a legitimate college basketball career. Let’s examine his time in the NCAA and whether his on-court performance matches his current basketball persona.

What Were Content Creator Austin McBroom’s College Basketball Stats?

Austin McBroom entered the world of D-I college basketball in 2011 when he joined Central Michigan. He played his first season with the Chippewas, becoming a starter almost immediately.

In his first year, the 2011-12 season, he played in 31 games, 30 as a starter, averaging 10.9 points per game in 29 minutes per game. He shot 39.6% from the two-point range and 42.1% from the perimeter, showing early promise as a shooter.

After McBroom missed the 2012-2013 season, he returned for the 2013-14 year with the Saint Louis Billikens. In his sophomore season (2013-14), he saw slightly less playing time, with about 21.5 minutes per game in 34 matches, just one as a starter. He averaged 7.3 points per game and shot 34.9% from three, his career low from the perimeter.

His junior year, the 2014-15 season, featured more starts. McBroom was in the starting five in 14 of the team’s 32 games but averaged less time on the court. That season, he also posted his career-low PPG average (6.7).

In 2015, McBroom transferred again — this time to Eastern Washington. With the Eagles, he became a full-time starter and one of the team’s top scorers. He started all 33 games, averaging 21 PPG, 2.5 RPG, and 3.7 APG. McBroom also shot 43.4% from two, 40.2% from three, and 83.2% from the free-throw line.

Did Austin McBroom Have NBA Potential?

While McBroom was a high-level college scorer, his size (5’9”, 165 lbs) and defensive limitations made him a long shot for the NBA. After college, he built a name for himself in pro-am leagues and social media.

The bottom line is that Austin McBroom had a strong college career, especially at Eastern Washington, where he was one of the best shooters in the Big Sky Conference.

His stats and highlights prove he was far from just an “internet baller”—he was a legitimate Division I standout.
