Devan Cambridge, a 6’6″ forward, was granted a rare seventh year of eligibility by the NCAA last week. After a journey marked by transfers and injuries, he is searching for a new program to conclude his collegiate career.
As of this report, the Texas Tech transfer has scheduled visits to Pitt and Ohio State, with Mississippi State also in the mix. So, where might this seasoned player land for his final season?

A Long Road Through College Basketball
Cambridge started at Auburn in 2019, where he showed promise for three years. His best season with the Tigers came as a sophomore in 2020/2021, when he averaged 8.9 points per game, proving he could be a reliable player.

After Auburn, he moved to Arizona State for the 2022/2023 season, where he averaged 9.8 points per game and showed versatility as a forward suitable for multiple positions.
In 2023, Cambridge went to Texas Tech, hoping to take on a key role with the Red Raiders. But injuries derailed his time in Lubbock. Over two seasons, he featured in about 14 games, sustaining a knee ligament tear in his first year, limiting him to eight appearances.
Last season, he managed only six games before stepping away from the program. In December last year, his coach, Grant McCasland, confirmed he sought a medical hardship waiver and would no longer be with the team. At the time, Cambridge averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Pittsburgh Panthers
Cambridge’s first official visit of this transfer process opened today at Pitt. The Panthers are looking to strengthen their roster with an experienced player. Just last week, Pitt pulled off a thrilling 91-90 overtime win over Ohio State as part of the ACC-SEC Challenge, a victory that head coach Jeff Capel called a “real program boost.” Currently ranked No. 18, Pitt has momentum, and Cambridge could fit nicely into their system.
Ohio State
Next up for Cambridge is a visit to Ohio State on Monday, May 19. The Buckeyes are coming off a tough loss to Pitt in that overtime thriller, but they’ve shown they can compete with top programs. Ohio State is known for its player development under head coach Jake Diebler, who took over in 2024 and has been working to rebuild the program into a Big Ten powerhouse.
Mississippi State
Cambridge has also expressed interest in visiting Mississippi State, but there is currently no schedule. The Bulldogs have been a solid SEC program under coach Chris Jans.
A few factors will likely guide his decision as he weighs his options. First, he’ll want a program where he can play a significant role and showcase his skills for a potential pro career. At this stage, minutes and exposure are critical.

Second, given his injury history, he’ll need to feel confident in the program’s ability to keep him healthy. Finally, he might consider which conference gives him the best shot at competing on a big stage.
