Alabama Crimson Tide freshman forward Derrion Reid is looking for a new home after entering his name into the transfer portal on Saturday evening.
The 6’8″, 220-pound forward was a five-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class and averaged 6.0 ppg and 2.8 rpg in 14.1 mpg for the Tide.
As he finds elsewhere to play, which teams should contact him?

5 Landing Spots for Derrion Reid
Florida Gators
Fresh off a national championship, the Gators are set to lose a large core of their roster and will likely look to the portal to fill those spots.
Enter Reid, a high-energy forward who has the potential to develop into a star player under head coach Todd Golden and his staff, who have done a tremendous job with player development in recent years.
Another reason would be to face his former Alabama squad, as both the Crimson Tide and Gators reside in the SEC. There doesn’t seem to be any ill will towards the program, but it could motivate Reid as a competitor.
Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas head coach Bill Self offered Reid out of high school but couldn’t secure a commitment; now they can.
The Jayhawks are graduating forward K.J. Adams Jr., who stands 6’7″. Reid, at 6’8″, could immediately fill the role that Adams played, be a defensive stopper, and be in a position where his offensive game can grow.
Self is in a spot where he needs to add talent — Reid would fit that bill, and it would be wise for the Jayhawks to reach out to the former Crimson Tide forward soon.
Florida State Seminoles
Another program that offered Reid out of high school, the Seminoles, stood as a place where Reid could grow as a player.
Although a new coaching staff is in place — as Luke Loucks replaced Leonard Hamilton — Reid could help build the program’s culture with his tough-minded, physical style of play.
Although FSU finished ninth in the ACC and only two games over .500 overall, Reid could grow without immense pressure on the player; many believe he can.
Georgia Bulldogs
A Georgia native, Reid would likely relish playing for his hometown Bulldogs. And it’s not like Georgia basketball is irrelevant, as they made the NCAA Tournament in 2025.
The Bulldogs face the departure of power forward Asa Newell to the NBA Draft; replacing him with Reid would be a drop off offensively but give them more versatility on the defensive end, as the former Crimson Tide forward has no problem switching onto smaller guards.
Head coach Mike White would be wise to contact Reid and see where his head is. If the Bulldogs have a chance to make a real run at the former five-star, they most certainly should.
Gonzaga Bulldogs
A wildcard amongst teams in the Midwest and South, head coach Mark Few has proven to be one of the best at developing young talent.
Most notably, he helped turn former Bulldog Rui Hachimura into a 19.7 ppg scorer in his junior season after averaging less than three points a night during his freshman season.

Gonzaga is in retool mode; if Reid is interested in moving out west, Few and his staff would be an excellent choice for the talented young forward.
