Danny Sprinkle Projected to Make Huge Gains After Washington’s Newest Transfer Portal Acquisition

According to On3’s latest rankings, the Washington Huskies’ transfer class is currently ranked No. 15 in the nation. Earlier in the offseason, Washington’s transfer class was ranked as high as No. 9, but after losing former five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook, the ranking dropped.

However, coach Danny Sprinkle isn’t letting the team down. College basketball analyst Jon Rothstein believes the Huskies have quietly built an impressive transfer class, setting them up for a strong season ahead.

Analyst Thinks Washington’s Recent Transfer Move Puts Danny Sprinkle on the Path to Big Success

The Huskies are trying to get back on their feet after an ugly season. Last year, their transfer class didn’t meet expectations, and the club finished last in the Big Ten. It won’t stop the Huskies from continuing, even if they’ve lost star players like Johntay Cook. They just made a big move that could change everything.

The Huskies improved their backcourt on Sunday by signing Desmond Claude and Wesley Yates III, who used to start for USC. 2023-24, Claude had a great year and won the Big East’s Most Improved Player award. He scored an average of 16.6 points, grabbed 4.2 rebounds, made 3.2 assists, and stole 1.1 balls per game.

Here is an interesting part that needs to be shared. Last season, the Huskies struggled with their guard play, and Claude was part of USC’s strong lineup that made things hard for Washington. Now that he’s on the same squad as the one he used to play against, Coach Sprinkle will have the upper hand.

Jon Rothstein, one of college basketball’s top insiders, took to Twitter to report Claude’s commitment: “Source: USC transfer Desmond Claude has committed to Washington.” Not long after, he doubled his praise for Washington’s offseason moves, tweeting, “Washington has quietly put together a tremendous transfer class. Huskies should make a massive jump in Year 2 under Danny Sprinkle.”

The New Haven native joins a well-rounded group of seven transfers, including Bryson Tucker (Indiana), Jacob Ognacevic (Lipscomb), Christian Nitu (Florida State), and Lathan Sommerville (Rutgers). These new players provide depth, scoring ability, and defensive flexibility, which puts Washington in a good position to improve after finishing last in the Big Ten in 2024-25.

The Southern Conference Player of the Year, Quimari Peterson, joins the team. Along with returning starter Zoom Diallo and new freshmen JJ Mandaquit and Courtland Muldrew, Washington’s backcourt suddenly appears deeper and more skilled than last season.

With these additions, Washington is poised for a massive jump in Sprinkle’s second season. After finishing last in the Big Ten in 2024-25, the Huskies have the talent to compete at a much higher level.
