Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies men’s team released its non-conference schedule yesterday. The 13-game schedule features some credible opponents, but overall, the lineup looks dull for the Huskies. Fans were quick to point it out under an announcement post.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein posted the graphic for UConn’s non-conference schedule on X. Fans flocked to the comments to express their disappointment over the lineup. Apart from posting numerous cupcake GIFs, they also stated that the schedule looks embarrassing.
“Embarrassing,” a fan wrote.
“NO WAY this is the ‘basketball capital of the world’ 😂😂” a fan wrote with a GIF of a cupcake.
The general opinion on the schedule is that it’s not competitive enough, especially for a program like UConn. Some fans called it out in the comments.
“Wow, does no one play a competitive schedule anymore?” A fan wrote.
While the allegations of a weak schedule are being pushed, one fan wondered what would happen if the Huskies lost most of these games.
“Jon- Will people still think UCONN is good after they lose the majority of these?” The fan wrote.
“They are incredibly scared of competition,” a fan wrote.
“These guys are never going back to what they use to be 🤣🤣🤣” a fan wrote.
UConn’s 13-game schedule will start on Oct. 13 against Boston. Their second game against Michigan State will be played on Oct. 28. The matchup against Michigan will be the first home game for the Huskies.

The Huskies will play eight home games in the non-conference schedule. They’ll play their last game against Texas at home on December 12th. Teams being extremely selective of their competition has been the common theme this season. Even though fans are giving UConn hell for their schedule, they aren’t the only ones doing it.
Dan Hurley compared the current team with the 2023 champions
During a conversation with Rothstein last week, Hurley stated that the 2025-26 team reminds him of the 2023 championship-winning squad.
“Yeah, I think it’s more like the ’23 team, where I do think it’s a strength in numbers,” Hurley said. “I think the depth is what’s gonna make it potentially a championship team or a special season for us.”
With a roster so strong, Hurley has already made it clear that the team’s top players will have to battle it out for minutes this season. It’s an understandable stance considering the strength of his roster and limited minutes per game.
“If you don’t defend for us this year or rebound the ball the way UConn has built its championship identity on, you’re not going to play. Last year, players got minutes that didn’t guard anywhere near the level we need them to guard at.”

Taking lessons from past mistakes, Hurley wants to head into the new season with a new perspective on roster rotation.
