Penn State Nittany Lions coach Brian Daboll may not actually be on a flight that he was slated to take, as speculations rise all over social media from onlookers. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, college football writer Jaret Gold took it to his X/Twitter account to upload a photo that shows a private plane flight from Teterboro, New Jersey, to a private airport in State College, Pennsylvania.
Gold’s caption then claims that the one on board is coach Daboll, who could be pursuing opportunities there for the betterment of his program moving forward. But since then, Gold’s upload has been debunked by collegiate football analyst Matt Fortuna. According to Fortuna, the flight is actually for Daboll’s men’s college basketball counterpart in Penn State coach Mike Rhoades.
Gold then claims that Rhoades is actually on the flight to visit Long Island Lutheran High School standout Dylan Mingo. Mingo, per 247 Sports, is currently listed as the No. 5-ranked five-star recruit in all of the prospects in the high school class of 2026. The Glen Head, New York, native is currently uncorking his senior year of high school hoops, which may lead Rhoades to recruit him to play for them when he gets to college.
No lie, this is actually the flight of Penn State men’s basketball coach Mike Rhoades, who was visiting five-star guard Dylan Mingo https://t.co/bdP0OpVjbX

Whether or not it was actually Daboll or Rhoades in the flight, both shot-callers are looking to fortify their respective teams moving forward. For the former’s case, he recently led his Nittany Lions football team to an overall record of 6-6 (3-6 Big Ten) and concluded the year as the No. 12 seed in the conference. Unfortunately for Daboll and his 2025 roster, they were unable to make it into any postseason matchups.
Dylan Mingo Has Received Offers From Other Programs Apart From The Penn State Nittany Lions
Perhaps coach Mike Rhoades is taking a more proactive approach in pursuing Dylan Mingo to play for his eventual 2026-27 Penn State Nittany Lions, primarily due to the young guard already garnering offers from other rival programs. Besides the Lions, Mingo is said to have been offered already by teams such as the Baylor Bears, North Carolina Tar Heels, Washington Huskies and NC State Wolfpack.
