When you’re a former NBA player, you may often find yourself chiming in on the state of the league, whether it be on high-level topics on some of the league’s best or even some incoming rookies who have the potential to get drafted in the year’s upcoming NBA Draft.
In this case, we saw former NBA player Cory Alexander give some public advice to Otega Oweh. Alexander told Oweh to delay going to the NBA and return to the University of Kentucky for what would be his senior season with the Kentucky Wildcats.

Former NBA Star Cory Alexander Urges Otega Oweh To Delay NBA
Oweh is coming off a very strong season with the Wildcats. He was instantly on some NBA teams’ radars by the end of the college basketball season. However, his future, when it comes to the sport of basketball, is anything but certain. Former NBA star Cory Alexander has chimed in on what he thinks Oweh should do.

“It’s easy. (Oweh should) Go back and get the money because he can come back and do this same thing next year,” Alexander said.
“He also has the opportunity to go back and have a great year at Kentucky, then come back to the combine next year and not have to play simply because you’ve proven to NBA executives that you’re a guy that they’re going to take in the first round. Now you have the opportunity while gaining $3 million dollars (from NIL).”
Alexander played at Virginia from 1991-1995 before a 10-year professional career with 6 different professional teams. He suggests that Oweh, who is coming off a great season for Kentucky, should go back to school unless he’s going to be a first-round pick in the NBA Draft.
“I’ve had this conversation with a number of parents, agents, etc. I don’t think these young people understand how difficult it is to make a million dollars,” Alexander said. “Coming from someone who in their lifetime has made a million dollars, it’s difficult to do, even at the NBA level.
“It’s an easy decision for me. Go back to school unless you’re an absolute guaranteed first rounder.

It’s no secret that Oweh had a stellar season with the Wildcats, but Alexander makes a very good point here. Unless Oweh is a guaranteed first-rounder, going back to Kentucky to increase his draft spot would be a great idea.
Oweh can build upon his draft spot for the 2026 NBA Draft and hopefully lead Kentucky on another good run in the 2026 March Madness tournament.
