Projected No.1 pick Cooper Flagg shines at the rim (60.5%) but posts average 3PT numbers (38.5%) as analysts break down his shooting ahead of the NBA Draft.

Projected No.1 Pick Copper Flagg’s Shooting Breakdown
Analysts explore the Shooting Breakdown of Duke Blue Devil’s NCAA Star, Freshman Forward Cooper Flagg, ahead of the NBA Draft.
The Freshman is currently projected to be the first overall pick in this year’s draft by many, including the likes of ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and College Sports Network.
“Flagg, the ultimate prize of this draft class and the expected top pick for years now, will head to Utah, where his services are badly needed. The Jazz haven’t fielded a competitive team come March and April since 2022, as they’ve tanked to achieve higher draft picks in the final months of the season,” wrote Bjorn Bergstrom of College Sports Network.
Flagg Barely Breaks Average For 3 Pointers.
According to a professional scout who recently broke down Flagg’s shooting numbers ahead of the Draft, the Duke Forward, who is predicted to play as a Power Forward in the NBA according to many, isn’t particularly proficient when it comes to three point success.
Last season, Flagg had a 38.5% total 3-point success rate, barely breaking above the NBA average, which is 34.5, while the Blue Devil is far from below average in this particular metric, his % doesn’t exactly set the world on fire.
In comparison, Vilanova Senior Forward Eric Dixon is the top-performing forward in this statistic, with a 40.71% success rate.
However, one area where Flagg does thrive in, according to these statistics, is at the rim, with a 60.5% success rate.
For comparison, in the NBA, the current top performer for field-goal percentage at the rim is Milwaukee Bucks Power Forward and 9x All Star, Giannis Antetokounpo, with a 60.1% success rate, meaning Cooper Flagg is currently averaging largely above average going into the Draft in this metric.
Blue Devil’s Stars Thoughts Ahead Of The Draft.
Despite Flagg being the clear favorite to go First Overall this year in the Draft, despite his side’s loss to Houston in the Final Four of March Madness, the Duke Forward is actually yet to declare for the NBA Draft, recently speaking to ESPN’s Sports Center on what he is going to decide.
“I think kind of what you said, just evaluating, you know, reflecting. It was an incredible year. I met a lot of incredible people. Made a ton of great relationships that I’m going to have for the rest of my life, and I think now it’s time for me to reflect. You know, take a couple days; take a week; take a month. Whatever it is for me. Talk to my parents, talk to the coaches, and just really decide what’s best for me.”
