He led his team to a Class A state championship, dropping 22 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in the title game. This performance earned him the honor of becoming the first freshman ever named Maine’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
Looking for greater competition, Flagg transferred to Montverde Academy in Florida. At Montverde, he played against the nation’s best, averaging 16.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.7 blocks per game in his senior year.
He led Montverde to an undefeated 34-0 record and a national championship. Awards poured in: Gatorade National Player of the Year, Naismith Player of the Year, and McDonald’s All-American honors.
In 2022, he played for Team USA at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, and despite being one of the youngest on the team, he was a force. Fast forward to 2024, and Flagg was chosen to be part of the USA Basketball Men’s Select Team, training with the Olympic squad before the Paris Olympics. At just 17 years old, he was the youngest player on the team, practicing against NBA superstars.
During these sessions, Flagg went head-to-head with some of the league’s best, impressing coaches and players alike. Kevin Durant, one of the greatest scorers of all time, even praised Flagg for his composure and ability to hold his own.
Competing at such a high level at such a young age only further prepared him for what was coming next.
