‘Meant to Be’ – Cooper Flagg’s Surprising First Jersey Reveal Sparks Trade Speculation Among Hoops Fans

Are the Boston Celtics a target for Cooper Flagg? Hoops fans speculated on the possibility on Friday after a video emerged of the former Duke Blue Devils star revealing his first-ever jersey.

In what seemed a rapid-fire round, an interviewer asked the Dallas Mavericks star to recall his first jersey. Flagg immediately said it was a custom Boston Celtics jersey with his name on the back. That answer caught the attention of fans, who replied to the post on X (formerly Twitter) after learning of Flagg’s Boston connection.

“Meant to be,” one fan replied.

“He wants to be a Celtic so bad man,” another fan chimed in.

“Most obvious future Celtic,” one fan replied.

Here are some more fan reactions to Flagg’s first jersey reveal.

“hes gonne be wearing a real celtics jersey with his name on the back in a few years,” one fan commented.

“This kid is a Celtic first chance he gets,” another fan shared.

“Yea when the rookie extension is up he is so coming to the Celtics, 2032 babyyyyy,” one fan predicted.

Flagg supporting Boston when he was a child isn’t surprising, as he grew up in Maine. The closest NBA city to that US state is Boston, Massachusetts, which explains Flagg’s affinity with the Celtics.

Unfortunately for Boston fans, Flagg isn’t coming to the Celtics anytime soon. The Dallas Mavericks will not let go of the former Duke star that easily after selecting him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft last week. They are expecting the 18-year-old to be the new face of the franchise following Luka Doncic’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Cooper Flagg Signs Rookie Contract With the Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have locked up Cooper Flagg for the foreseeable future, signing the teen phenom to a four-year rookie contract. Based on the league’s rookie salary system for the 2025-26 NBA season, he is set to earn $62.7 million during this period.

According to Spotrac, Flagg will make $13.8 million in his first year with the Mavs. Dallas has assembled a strong lineup, with Flagg joining NBA stars Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson on the Mavericks’ roster.
