Cooper Flagg, Paolo Banchero and Jayson Tatum’s Return to Duke Has Fans Abuzz: “Never Seen Kyire Irving Go Back”, “Zion Don’t Never Comeback”

Cooper Flagg burst onto the scene with his unbelievable high school performances at Monteverde. After signing with Duke in 2024, he excelled under Jon Scheyer. Even though Duke could not make it past the Final Four, Flagg’s individual display in his only season was one to remember.

Duke has produced unreal talent over the years. Mike Krzyzewski’s value and legacy of five national championships with the Blue Devils created winners. Kyrie Irving, Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and Carlos Boozer are some of the most famous players to come out of Duke. So it was natural that there would be a lot of buzz among fans when their alum returned.

Cooper Flagg and Paolo Banchero recently returned to Duke for a scrimmage session with the current Duke squad. Jayson Tatum was also in attendance, as fans online went into a frenzy.

“Zion don’t never comeback lol,” one fan commented.

“I’ve never seen Kyrie Irving go back to duke,” another fan said.

“Iron sharpens iron,” one fan shared his excitement.

“The brotherhood is real,” one user appreciated the special bond of Duke hoopers.

“Meanwhile cam nor zion come back at all,” another wrote.

“Paolo and Coop on the same squad ain’t fair,” one user commented.

“Zion no where to be seen… he bust …IDGAF,” one fan showed his frustration.

“Nun of these guys won a natty btw,” another wrote.

Both Cooper Flagg and Paolo Banchero looked sharp in the scrimmage. The current Duke squad also matched them band for band.

It was surely a special feeling for Flagg, Paolo, and Tatum to return to their beloved Duke, and fans were excited, too. However, questions around Kyrie Irving and Zion Williamson were still in fans’ conversations.

Cooper Flagg’s Duke Career Under Jon Scheyer

Flagg was a vital part of Scheyer’s game plan last season. Even before playing his first game for Duke, there was an excitement in the basketball world to see how Flagg would turn up. Huge expectations loomed over his head.

Flagg had quickly become a fan-favorite. There were even claims of him being the best high school player since LeBron James. Those claims eventually turned into shouts of Flagg being one of the best freshmen the game had seen.

At 6’8, Flagg’s physicality and agility were the features of his game. Cooper averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in his freshman season. Duke suffered defeat at the hands of Houston in the Final Four.

In the NBA, Cooper Flagg has made a good start with the Dallas Mavericks. After the Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to LeBron James’ LA Lakers, they had to make a statement for the future, and Cooper Flagg can be as good as anyone in the world. Dallas has found gold in the form of Cooper Flagg, who has the potential to become one of the greatest ever.
