Colorado’s Non-Conference Schedule Features Power Matchups Ahead of Big 12 Gauntlet

With the 2025-26 basketball season approaching, the Colorado Buffaloes are getting ready. They have released their non-conference schedule for the upcoming season, and CBS Sports analyst Jon Rothstein shared it on his X handle on Wednesday.

Colorado will begin game action on October 19 with an exhibition game against Grace College before officially kicking off the season by hosting Montana State on November 3.

In November, the Buffaloes will also face Eastern Washington, Providence, Alabama State, and UC Davis before closing out the month at the Acrisure Series.

Colorado’s December schedule features matchups against California Baptist, Colorado State, UTSA, Portland State, Stanford, and Northern Colorado.

The Buffaloes fared well in non-conference play last season. They opened the campaign with four straight wins before dropping their first game of the season to Michigan State on November 25. Colorado bounced back to defeat the second-ranked UConn the following day but lost to conference foe Iowa State on November 27.

Colorado strung together four consecutive non-conference wins in December before their season took a turn for the worse in Big 12 play. The Buffaloes dropped their first 13 conference contests and finished conference play 3-17 last season.

Tad Boyle’s team will look to take an early lead in the non-conference matchups for next season and will also aim to find success in the Big 12.

Jon Rothstein protests possible March Madness expansion

Jon Rothstein has made his feelings about the expansion of the NCAA Tournament, March Madness, clear. Weighing in on the matter, the CBS Sports analyst revealed that he would hold a protest against the development in New York.

“Dear America, I will host an open rally in Central Park to protest expansion of the NCAA Tournament if this chatter continues. If you don’t live in the NYC area, you are more than welcome to fly in and attend. We must stick together if and when crisis occurs. Sincerely, JR”

Recently, there have been discussions regarding the expansion of March Madness from its current 68-team format to 72 or 76 teams from the next season onwards. NCAA president Charlie Baker suggested the change at the Big 12 spring meetings.

Any change to the NCAA Tournament needs to be approved by the NCAA men’s basketball committee. Baker recently remarked that he is looking to get a response from the committee on a possible expansion in the coming months. He said (via the X handle of Orlando Sentinel’s Matt Murschel):

“Our goal here is to try to sort of either get to yes or no sometime in the next few months because there’s a lot of logistical work that would be associated with doing this if we were to go down this road.”

Rothstein’s social media post suggests that the March Madness expansion isn’t accepted by all members of the college basketball community.
