‘College basketball is cooked’ – Fans in Shock as AAC POY PJ Haggerty Asks for $4 Million in the Transfer Portal

Memphis star guard PJ Haggerty entered the transfer portal on Thursday and became one of the hottest commodities. Unfortunately, Haggerty won’t be available to any interested program, as he’s asking for a whopping $4m and a nailed-on starting shirt as a point guard to sign the dotted line.

Haggerty led Memphis to a 29-6 overall record and the AAC’s regular-season and conference tournament championships. He ranked third nationally, scoring 21.7 points per game and averaging 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He was named a consensus second-team All-American.

Fans react to Haggerty’s asking price.

Haggerty will play for his fourth program in four seasons next year. After redshirting as a freshman at TCU, he transferred to Tulsa for one season before joining Memphis.

Now, he’s leaving Memphis, and this time, it seems to be financially motivated. Some fans are questioning if he’s worth paying that amount for. “College basketball is cooked..”, a social media user said.

Haggerty averaged 21.7 points for the Memphis Tigers this past season, ranking third in the nation. He shot 36% from behind the arc, averaging 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.8 steals. He earned AAC player of the year and second-team All-America honors at the end of the season.

Haggerty is requesting an NBA-level payout, and some fans are wondering if colleges will be able to sustain this kind of deal.

Haggerty reportedly told Memphis he’ll test the NBA draft waters, and a return to Memphis isn’t ruled out yet. How many teams are willing to part with $4m to land the talented point guard remains to be seen.
